This past season was quite different as the high school season was played in the spring and outside of the usual recruiting windows for college programs. Add in many seniors were given an extra year of eligibility to use due to the pandemic so many from the Class of 2021 had to look outside of the traditional route to college.

That was the case with a few members from in-state who instead of going to a four-year school directly will spent a year in prep school in 2021-22. Here’s a look at some of the top ones moving on.

[player_tooltip player_id="606255" first="Trace" last="Salton"], Lake Oswego to Bridgton Academy (Maine)

Salton made the decision to head to Bridgton Academy ahead of his senior season at Lake Oswego in 2021. With the pressure of recruiting off his back, the 6-foot-5 swingman had a tremendous year averaging 17.9 points and 8.8 rebounds on his way to earning First Team All-Three Rivers League honors. Bridgton has had plenty of success moving its players onto the college level, in particular Division I which is what Salton’s goal has been from day one.

"Basically since I didn’t get a full season last year with the playoffs where I wanted to show my talents, this fifth, post-year will help me get about 30 to 40 games in and get some of the exposure that I want," Salton told us back in April. "So hopefully I’ll get a college offer that I’ll like."

[player_tooltip player_id="855935" first="Nic" last="Boyd"], La Salle to Frederick Gunn (Connecticut)

One of the busiest seniors throughout the pandemic playing in several AAU tournaments in addition to his senior season at La Salle, Boyd will continue his prep career with one more season at Frederick Gunn. The 6-foot-1 guard will get an opportunity to play in arguably the most prestigious prep school leagues the NEPSAC where college recruiters are in the gym watching players on a daily basis.

"A big part was knowing that if I went to a four-year right away would mean there would be more seniors staying because of the extra year of eligibility," Boyd said. "I can take time to mature, grow and learn before taking that next step."

[player_tooltip player_id="1005095" first="Cameron" last="Andre-Covington"], Columbia Christian to Hargrave Military Academy (Virginia)

Andre-Covington showed flashes of brilliance the past two years at Columbia Christian and on the AAU circuit with International Elite. He’s got plenty to work with as he’s long, athletic, and 6-foot-9. He’s the perfect candidate for prep school and he’ll be at famed Hargrave Military Academy where he’s already picked up a D-I scholarship offer from Bethune-Cookman since he’s been there.

[player_tooltip player_id="855990" first="Nate" last="Mouzong"], Mountainside to Shooting 4 Greatness Academy (North Carolina)

Mouzong had a shortened 2021 campaign, appearing in three games with Mountainside before making the decision to train on his own to prepare for 2021-22. The athletic 6-foot-2 guard excels in the open floor and has a true point guard mentality in that he is a pass-first point guard. He heads to S4G located in Raleigh which should open the door for new opportunities on the East Coast.
