Jerome when he is on the floor he is always the quickest players on the floor.  Williams was tasked with dictating the action while actively asserting himself as a scorer from all levels. Between his pesky defense, useful playmaking, and constant scoring pressure, he visibly sets the tone for Mt. Zion this season. Williams is a knockdown shooter who can dismantle defenses with a quick release, and the ability to hit shots off the catch or bounce.

19p 3a 2r 1s vs Carroll

-The dynamic engine that makes this MZN team go, Williams has played a big role in his team’s 3-0 performance at the Utah Hoop Fest and now in a win over Carroll. The explosive PG does his best work in transition– getting to the rim to finish past the defender, throwing some ballsy 1-handed chest passes that thread through the defense to a teammate, and getting to the FT line with euro’s or pump fakes. Williams’ perimeter jumper continues to fall at a respectable clip, shooting 40% from 3 while also leading his team’s defense as a scrappy POA defender.

21p 4a 3r 2s vs Rocktop

-Explosive performance from the dynamic MZ National PG in a blowout win over Rocktop. Williams did a great job controlling pace in this one– forcing turnovers at the POA by cutting off driving lanes and collecting deflections defensively while putting pressure on the rim at the other end. His decision-making was on point while weaving through the defense, with an added emphasis on keeping his head up after collecting a steal or rebound to either throw a lob over the top of ignite the fastbreak himself. Improvements to his perimeter shooting were evident, with Williams going 4/6 from beyond the arc to blow the game open en route to a big win

Jerome Williams was another player who impressed me in June at DMVlive. Quickness and vision are the two things that stand out to me with Jerome. He is impossible to stand in front of and is one of the more explosive players in the DMV. When Jerome gets downhill, he does a great job finding bigs and shooters. Jerome is a crafty finisher at the rim, and being a little undersized, that is needed.

Mt Zion ran away early against Miller School. There were a lot of great performers for Mt. Zion in this, but Jerome Williams was probably the best. Defenders had a hard time staying in front, and he had a couple of really nice takes. Jerome has a nice jump shot and is a good passer. Jerome isn’t only quick with the ball in his hands; he also has quick hands. Jerome finished with 19 points and 5 assists.

Jerome exploded for a 34 point performance in the state semifinals, as his team just fell short in the closing seconds of overtime. Williams was the quickest player I saw all weekend and is nearly impossible to stay in front of. He could blow by defenders to get to the basket or stop on a dime in the mid-range for a shot off the dribble. He was also flying around on the defensive end, jumping passing lanes and flustering opposing ball handlers. Jerome impressed me most with his dominance in transition, being able to score himself or dish it off to a teammate at full speed.

The Minnesota Spartans had tough matchups in their first two rounds, and Jerome was a key reason why they were able to advance deeper in the bracket. He’s simply too quick for most defenders to stick with, and he makes it even more difficult with how well he changes his pace on the ball. Sag off and Jerome can pull-up for a three, but play him tight and he’s going to freeze you before blowing by to the basket. Since I’ve last seen him play he’s gotten even more explosive, which helps him play off two feet and hang in the air to finish against bigger players. Defensively he was a pest on the ball all weekend long, utilizing that elite quickness to pressure opposing guards constantly.

-Really dynamic performance for Williams in this one as a passer, driver, and perimeter shooter–showing the full range of his abilities in this one. The shifty floor general got into the paint with ease and created for his teammates on the low block and the wing, finishing with inside hand extension layups when the passing options weren’t there. He utilizes a quick change of speed and explosive change of direction to beat the defense to spots. His ability to really race it to the other end to get an easy layup after the opposing team scored was invaluable to staving off a late McNamara push to win this one
