In the Eastern Dakota Conference, it looks like we have many exciting duos to look at. In this article, we are looking at players from the EDC in North Dakota.
DYNAMIC DUOS
Fargo Davies
Ian Motschenbacher Ian Motschenbacher 6'1" | PG Fargo Davies | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-1 PG| Mason Klabo Mason Klabo 6'2" | PG Fargo Davies | 2025 State #240 Nation ND (2025) |6-0 SG|
These two feed off each other. Ian and Mason played a ton of minutes together in the last year during the high school season and in summer ball. They can both shoot, slash, score at will, handle the rock, and share the basketball. There may be a discrepancy when it comes to their age, but they play into each other strengths and set each other up like they are brothers. Look for Ian and Mason to have the Eagles playing like a top team in Class-A early in the season. I am thrilled to watch these two hoop together again this year.
Fargo North
Jeremiah Sem Jeremiah Sem 6'3" | SG Fargo North | 2024 State #303 Nation ND (2024) |6-3 G| Carter Zeller Carter Zeller 6'6" | PF Fargo North | 2024 State ND (2024) |6-6 PF|
They are easily the best sophomore duo in North Dakota. Sem is the “lightning” and Zeller is the “thunder”. They compliment each other flawlessly. Jeremiah makes the amazing highlight-reel plays and Carter makes the physical gritty plays inside. Both Spartans are dominant players, so teams can not forget about either one. Look for Sem and Zeller to put up impressive numbers all year long. North is deep and young, I can not wait to see how they take care of business early in the year.
Grand Forks Red River
Paine Parks Paine Parks 6'3" | SG Grand Forks Red River | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-3 SG| Zach Kraft Zach Kraft 6'2" | PG Grand Forks Red River | 2023 State ND (2023) |6-2 PG|
Easily one of the best guard combinations in the EDC. Parks is the elder and he is big and physical. Kraft is a veteran junior and he is as quick as a cat. These two are excellent shooters from beyond the arc and from mid-range. Parks is extremely good penetrating to his left and pulling up for a 15-foot jumper. Kraft really excels shooting from beyond the arc. When I have watched him, Zach is extra-deadly from the corner. Look for Red River to make a strong run for the State Tournament.
Shanley
Conner Kraft Conner Kraft 6'5" | PF Shanley | 2023 State ND (2023) |6-7 PF| Tyler Kraft Tyler Kraft 6'2" | SG Shanley | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-3 SG|
The Kraft’s make up the best brother duo in Class-A North Dakota. Conner is a dominant big man and Tyler is a smooth-shooting guard. They are both talented players with the skillset and athleticism to play college basketball. Conner and Tyler will come into the season as seasoned vets in the EDC. I expect them to hit the ground running and to be one of the best in the EDC. Tyler will be a top guard and Conner will be a top forward in the EDC. Can they make Shanley a top team as well? My answer is, YES!
Wahpeton
Blake Schafer Blake Schafer 6'1" | SG Wahpeton | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-1 SG| Ethan Manock Ethan Manock 6'4" | PF Wahpeton | 2023 State ND (2023) |6-5 PF|
Wahpeton lost a ton of offensive production to graduation. Blake and Ethan will step in and fill that role for the Huskies. Schafer is a smart and tough guard that can create his own shot. Schafer can also create for teammates, he will be one of the keys to success for Manock. Ethan is a powerful post player. He will get double-teamed often. If Schafer can take some of the scoring pressure off Manock the Huskies could surprise people. Look for Schafer to penetrate/draw help, drop a dime to Manock, and the end result will be a 2-handed rim-rocking slam dunk.
West Fargo
Brett Limke Brett Limke 6'1" | PG West Fargo | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-1 PG| Carson Hegerle Carson Hegerle 6'3" | SG West Fargo | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-3 SG|
These two are returning State Champions. They know a thing or two about success and playing in big games. The Packers lost all of their frontcourt production, but Nick Carlson Nick Carlson 6'4" | SF West Fargo | 2022 State ND will step in nicely and fill that role. Limke and Hegerle will make up the most experienced backcourt in ND after their State Title run. Limke directs traffic and runs the show for the Packers. He is the primary ball-handler and their top 3-point shooter. Hegerle is the workhorse and top athlete for WF. He is a prime-time athlete that can go off for 30 points any night. Limke and Hegerle complement each other perfectly. Do they have another State Title run in them?
West Fargo Sheyenne
Kaleb Larson Kaleb Larson 6'3" | SG West Fargo Sheyenne | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-3 SG| Michael Nhial Michael Nhial 6'7" | SF West Fargo Sheyenne | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-7 SF|
They will be two of the more underrated players in the EDC. Mike and Kaleb will most likely be the leading scorers for the Mustangs. They are both big for their positions and they can both hit the 3-ball consistently. I expect Larson to be one of the best 3-point shooters in the EDC. Nhial is a top-notch athlete and maybe the best dunker in the conference. He can fill it up in a hurry. This is an exciting and electric duo. How far will the Mustangs make it this year after losing so much to graduation? My call is, they make it back to State.
Dominic Dosmann Dominic Dosmann 6'8" | PF WF Sheyenne | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-8 PF| Zander Newton Zander Newton 6'4" | SF West Fargo Sheyenne | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-5 F|
They will be a “dynamic frontcourt duo”. These two forwards will be the backbone of the Mustang defense and rebounding effort. Dominic is Mr. Consistent that can do it all. Newton dunks and hits triples. Sheyenne will be the biggest team in the EDC and they will be very versatile. When they go zone, they will be massive with arms everywhere. Look for Dosmann and Newton to help Sheyenne dominate the boards. Make sure you watch Sheyenne early in the season to see how all of their pieces fit together. It is going to be a fun one!
