August 30th-31st Justin Vargas and I put on the 5th annual Southwest Basketball Camp at the beautiful Phhacility in Phx, AZ.

66 players from Arizona and Texas battled it out. 8 teams with 8-9 players each.

Each team played 5 games with a possible All-Star game. The All-Star games lived up to the hype with many coaches walking away impressed with what they saw. The younger talent was pretty obvious.

We take a look at each teams players.

Here was Team Arizona:

Top-20 All-Star game

[player_tooltip player_id="831121" first="Kota" last="Benson"] Mesa (Pictured)

A pure PG with a high feel for game. He is one of the best passers at the camp with impeccable timing. He can split defenders or pass through a double team. He can pull-up from mid to 3 and will create space to shoot it. He makes the tougher passes look easy and is a good advance passer.

[player_tooltip player_id="1029812" first="Anderson" last="Wilson"] Mountain Pointe

An all-around guard who likes getting downhill. The strong lefty can finish efficiently in traffic and will make the tough shots around defenders. He can pull-up from mid to the 3 and euro his way to the basket. He had a sensational tip-dunk in traffic that set the crowd off.

Top-40 All-Star game

[player_tooltip player_id="936906" first="Masaiah" last="Binford"] South Mountain

A high motored defensive forward is active all game long. He can pull-up from mid-range and is starting to hit 3’s with more consistency. He can improve his handle in traffic but he will sit down and defend multiple positions. His energy and motor change games.

[player_tooltip player_id="1066495" first="Aeramiah" last="Binford"] South Mountain

The younger brother is another high motored forward. His activity for his age is off the charts. He handles the ball a little better and is more fluid. He is great in the passing lanes and had one nasty tip dunk.

[player_tooltip player_id="1033021" first="Chris" last="Long"] Vista Grande

A true face-up five-man who loves shooting perimeter jumpers. He makes catch-3’s and rebounds well on both ends of the court. He can score on put backs plus he can handle it decently to create his own shots. He should have a monster season for the Spartans in 4A.

[player_tooltip player_id="1032376" first="Eydurus" last="Muse"] Chandler

A pure PG who likes using the pick and roll game. He can read the defense and drive and kick it to a shooter or dump it off after his burst into the lane. He can pull-up from mid to the 3pt line.

[player_tooltip player_id="1035129" first="Adrien" last="Armstrong"] Carl Hayden

A super active defender who is developing as a shooter. He has a good handle to create his own offense and is a sneaky good passer. His motor and ability to play hard for a long time sets him apart from many. His improving skill makes him more attractive.

David Justice Torres 6’2 SF 2022 Cesar Chavez

A thicker wing with a shifty handle. He gets downhill using his good upper body strength. He can fall-away in the post and shows impressive body control in the lane. He is a capable 3pt shooter but is best attacking to the basket.
