It’s always interesting to see what people outside the state think of Kansas players. The local Prep Hoops scouts try to get an intimate knowledge of Kansas players, but the outside perspective can be quite telling.

Here are a few recent instances of Kansas guards popping up on the national radar:

[player_tooltip player_id="1262636" first="Dante" last="Jackson"], 6-foot-4 guard, 2022, Shawnee Mission West HS:

Man did one national scout rave about Jackson at the MAYB Nationals. He caught Jackson playing for KC United and called him ‘an awesome player to watch.’ Jackson is, of course, a dynamite shooter, but the scout also praised his ability to finish at the rim, as well as his rebounding.

[player_tooltip player_id="1172929" first="Michael" last="Kates"], 5-foot-9 guard, 2024, Wichita Collegiate HS:

TBB KS’ point man won over a lot of people this summer. He’ll be a prime member of the forthcoming 2024 rankings. A reporter at the Grind Regional Finals was effusive in his praise of Kates’ ball handling, playmaking and scoring ability. He also noted in detail Kates’ nice touch from deep.

[player_tooltip player_id="891921" first="Geremiah" last="Moore"], 5-foot-9 guard, 2022, Wichita West HS:

Someone saw Moore at the MAYB Nationals and praised his discipline and fine defense. Among his compliemnts of Moore, the writer noted ‘He’s got great vision in the tranisition offense and a very tight handle,’ He called Moore reliable with the 3 and faithful on the box out.

[player_tooltip player_id="1080185" first="BJ" last="Redic"], 6-foot-2 guard, 2023, Andover HS:

It’s no surprise that Redic stood out to a scout at the MAYB National. Redic is a steady riser on the Kansas scene. The scout who saw him with OZ Elite called him a ‘human highlight reel,’ and said he was one of the most athletic players at the showcase. He described Redic as playing bigger than his size, and able to score at will. He also praised Redic’s on-court IQ. That doesn’t sound too good for Andover’s opponents this year.

[player_tooltip player_id="1080175" first="Garrett" last="Robertson"], 5-foot-10 guard, 2023, Hutchinson HS (pictured):

While we in Kansas are all aware of Robertson’s great handles and leadership, one national writer was most impressed with Robertson’s shot, calling him a ‘go-to wing shooter…with elite focus and marksmanship.’ There’s a lot to like about the Oz Elite point man’s game, as Kansans know.
