It’s impossible to see every player. And some top 2023s ( Avery Johnson Avery Johnson 6'2" | CG Maize | 2023 KS !) were not in action where we could see them. But from what we saw this summer, our third team includes a couple of guys still waiting to make an impact on the varsity.
Top Summer Performers, 2023 – Third Team:
Fernando Gracia Fernando Gracia 6'6" | PF Olathe North | 2023 KS , 6-foot-5 forward, 816 Hoops – Burch, Olathe North HS:
A revelation at a couple of tournaments this summer, Gracia is a guy without a varsity resume who popped on the radar this summer. He is a top shot blocking threat with great length and a knack for getting to drivers. He can post up or float out to catch and shoot from deep. Watch for Gracia to build on his summer performance this fall.
Levi Harden, 6-foot-3 forward, Wichita Padres, Maize South HS:
Another guy ready to make an impact on the high school scene is Harden. He scored at a high level this summer for the Padres. He gets it done inside with his size and ability to elevate, and from the outside with his solid 3-point shot. There were a lot of club contests where he hit multiple triples. He has the handle and the athleticism to push it end to end and create opportunities in transition.
Bryson Perez Bryson Perez 6'4" | SG Andover Central | 2023 KS , 6-foot-4 forward, Wichita Padres-Kiem, Wichita Trinity (pictured):
Already well-established as a player on the 3A high school level. Perez is demonstrating on the circuit that he can do some of everything. He’s a long guy who can handle the ball and attack a defense from end to end. He’s quick and agile with the ball, able to knife through traffic and get all the way to the rim. His length plays well at the defensive end too. He contests shots, rips down boards, and gets up and down the floor with the best of them.
Jailen Thompson Jailen Thompson 6'5" | PF Free State | 2023 State KS , 6-foot-5, United Basketball, Free State HS:
Thompson established himself as a player in the paint at the highest level of high school ball as a sophomore. Now he’s turning himself into a go-to guy, honing his skills in the post and beyond this summer. Thompson uses his length and agility to contest shots and clean up the boards. He’s a selfless, yet effective offensive threat in the post who moves really well to get in position and get his shot off.
Jack Voth Jack Voth 6'6" | PF J.T. Hoggard | 2023 State NC , 6-foot-4 forward, TBB KS, Buhler HS:
With so much talent on the Buddy Buckets team, Voth is a valuable ‘Swiss-Army Knife’ type. He can play as a guard, wing or post. He is a physical guy who crashes the boards and does a lot of dirty work. He has grown accustomed to playing a complementary role. We’ll see if he can take on more of a lead role at Buhler next season.
