2022 Top Summer Risers – Second Team

<p>Following up the release of Prep Hoops’ Top Summer Performers (1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd teams), we announce the Top Summer Risers.</p> <p>These are players who might not be established stars. They might not have even been one of the top options on their high school team. But they took big steps forward this summer and demonstrated what they can do against high-level competition.</p> <p>Top Summer Risers, 2022 – Second Team:</p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="1195611" first="Nathan" last="Adams"], 6-foot-2 forward, Western Kansas Elite, Pratt-Skyline HS:</p> <p>Adams didn’t get a lot of notoriety at little Pratt-Skyline, but he looked as confident as anyone when he took the court at some summer tournaments. He shoots it with accuracy, stepping out to the wing and baseline all the way to the boundary. He combines physical size and agility in a way that makes him a matchup problem. Thus he scores efficiently inside and out.</p> <p><strong>Mikai Blakeney</strong>, 6-foot-4 forward, KC Spurs, Olathe West HS:</p> <p>Somewhat similar to Adams, Blakeney is a long shooter who floats out to the wing and buries open shots. He’s a smooth athlete who can get to open spots and get the ball off quickly. His length is an asset in the lane at both ends, and he runs the floor really well. Look for him to put up more stats in his senior season at Olathe West.</p> <p><strong>Terique Suwareh</strong>, 6-foot guard, KC Spurs, Olathe West HS:</p> <p>Suwareh is a heady and controlled ball handler who showed he can quarterback a club team with efficiency. He has the skills and vision and IQ to keep his team running at a good tempo without getting helter-skelter. He’s powerfully built and can hold off a defender with his strength. He can push and dish, get in the lane and score, and put his size to use on the glass. He is just as much a problem at the defensive end, getting his hands on the ball and bodying up opponents.</p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="1076410" first="Terrence" last="Tedder Jr"], 6-foot shooting guard, SSA Hoops Elite, Junction City HS (pictured):</p> <p>Tedder is an exciting player. When he gets his hands on the ball, he’s gone in a flash. He’s not a selfish ball handler, but he has the jets to simply outrun defenses to the goal. He fearlessly attacks the defense in transition and gets a lot of high-speed conversions. He showed this summer that he can knock down the perimeter shot at a high rate. He and some returning mates will make the Blue Jays a team to watch as the Centennial League turns over a lot of talent.</p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="1162514" first="Luke" last="Tolbert"], 5-foot-11 guard, Team Buddy Buckets KS, Garden City HS:</p> <p>Tolbert has already put together a couple of good seasons, but he does it way out west, where he escapes a lot of notoriety. But his work this summer is opening a lot of eyes. He’s a deadly threat from deep, and he’s not afraid to turn on the jets and take the ball the other way in a hurry. His combination of skills complements the players around him with Buddy Buckets, and he produces a lot of points without dominating the ball. He brings a lot of toughness and intensity to the defensive end too.</p>
