The Garden State was hit with big news today as Roselle Catholic’s [player_tooltip player_id="787669" first="Corey" last="Floyd Jr"]. decided to reclass into the class of 2021 and go to UConn a year early. The Lions will miss his presence in the starting lineup next season, but they still have [player_tooltip player_id="850752" first="Simeon" last="Wilcher"] to run the show. The rising junior guard can finish in a variety of ways around the basket and does not mind drawing contact.

Wilcher is a smooth passer who knows how to set his teammates up in the half court. He has the potential to make an All-State team this season as he looks to lead Roselle Catholic to its third Non-Public B title in the last four years. Wilcher will get a big boost from [player_tooltip player_id="1153997" first="Jaiden" last="Glover"], who transferred in from St. Benedict’s.

The 6’4 shooting guard has a good handle, which he uses to get by his defender and finish above the rim. Glover is more than just a slasher as he also has a nice release on his jumper. He and Wilcher should make for an intriguing back court duo, but Glover is not the only transfer to have a big role for Roselle Catholic this season.

[player_tooltip player_id="901992" first="Braxton" last="Jones"] moved in from Trenton Catholic and should make an impact right away. The 6’0 guard has a clean shooting stroke and can get hot from distance in a hurry. Jones can also handle the ball on the perimeter and is an underrated passer. His ability to hit shots from the perimeter should compliment Wilcher and Glover perfectly in a three-guard lineup.

The departure of Floyd Jr. opens up an opportunity for teams to make a move in Union County and Non-Public B North. Westfield has one of the top forwards in the Garden State in lanky stretch four [player_tooltip player_id="1018572" first="Sean" last="Logan"], who broke out during the months of June and July. His ability to protect the paint makes the Blue Devils a tough team to beat, but he is not the only player to keep an eye on this season.

[player_tooltip player_id="1146391" first="Zander" last="Barraza"] is a knockdown shooter from distance who can get hot from distance in a hurry. He can also play point as Barraza has a nice handle and does not make many mistakes with the ball in his hands. Rising junior point guard [player_tooltip player_id="1033429" first="Pete" last="Meixner"] is a breakout contender to watch as he gets an opportunity to run Westfield’s offense.

Gill St. Bernard’s looks to benefit the most from Floyd Jr.’s departure as the Knights are one of the most talented squads in the Garden State. Georgetown commit [player_tooltip player_id="850666" first="Denver" last="Anglin"] returns to run the show, along with rising junior [player_tooltip player_id="902732" first="Mackenzie" last="Mgbako"]. Wing [player_tooltip player_id="902746" first="Naasir" last="Cunningham"] is one of the top prospects in the 2024 class as he has a tight handle and can score at all three levels.

The 2021-22 season should be one to watch with teams in Union County and Non-Public B North taking a shot at Roselle Catholic.
