The 2023 guard class is loaded with talent, headlined by [player_tooltip player_id="850752" first="Simeon" last="Wilcher"] and [player_tooltip player_id="850751" first="Dajuan" last="Wagner Jr"]. They are not the only guards in the class who will have a strong junior campaigns as the group has a couple of breakout candidates. Here are the top 2023 point guard prospects who are ready for a big jump.

[player_tooltip player_id="850762" first="Elijon" last="Nix"], 6’0 Arts

Nix has had a good first two varsity seasons, but is ready for a big jump in his third season. The 6’0 guard has a nice handle, which he uses to get into the lane and make plays. Nix is more than just a slasher as he has a nice release on his jumper and shoots the ball with confidence. He makes good decisions with the ball in his hands and is a good rebounder for a guard his size. Nix and [player_tooltip player_id="850754" first="Spencer" last="Joyner"] will combine to make one of the deadliest duos in Essex County this season.

[player_tooltip player_id="1013073" first="Carnegie" last="Johnson"], 5’11 Blair Academy

Johnson may not be in the starting lineup on opening day, but he will be playing very important minutes throughout the season. The 5’11 floor general is lightning quick with the ball in his hands and rarely makes poor decisions. Johnson has a nice shooting stroke and sets his feet before every shot. He moves his feet well on the defensive end as he makes it hard for opposing ball-handlers to get into sets. Johnson is a tough, two-way point guard prospect who should make key plays down the stretch for Blair Academy.

[player_tooltip player_id="902756" first="Jadin" last="Collins"], 6’1 Rutgers Prep

Collins transferred to Rutgers Prep in the offseason and is ready to run the offense for the Argonauts. The 6’1 point guard plays with composure on the ball and is a crafty finisher around the basket. Collins has a tight handle and excels at pushing the ball in transition. He is a tough on-ball defender and knows how to play passing lanes. Collins picked up multiple offers during the course of the live session and should pick up more if he continues his strong play.

[player_tooltip player_id="902748" first="Hampton" last="Sanders"], 6’0 Lawrenceville

Sanders has been playing at a high level for Princeton Day over the last two seasons, but should take a jump in his debut campaign for Lawrenceville. The 6’0 guard is a tenacious defender as he moves his feet well and is unafraid of diving on the floor for loose balls. Sanders uses his quickness to beat his defender off the bounce and does not mind drawing contact around the basket. He has a nice release on his jumper and can knock down open jumpers on the perimeter. Sanders is a physical two-way floor general who should turn heads this season at Lawrenceville.

[player_tooltip player_id="902758" first="Lorenzo" last="Perez"], 5’10 Morris Catholic

Perez should take a big jump in 2022 as he will be entering his second year in Morris Catholic’s offense. The 5’10 guard has a good handle and does not get rattled by on-ball pressure. Perez plays with his head up in the half court and knows how to get his teammates involved. He plays with quick hands on the defensive end and is a good rebounder for a guard. Perez is a gritty point guard prospect who could have a breakout junior campaign.
