2022 positional breakdowns SF Part 1

After completing two parts of positional breakdowns for both point guards and GC/SG, it's time to move to the wings. Starting with small forwards, this article will look at the top small forwards in the state. Make sure to stay following prep hoops Ohio for all scouting content on basketball in the buckeye state.

[player_tooltip player_id="1041394" first="Chris" last="Livingston"], 6'6 SF Buchtel 2022: Livingston is a five star prospect by every national recruiting service and finds himself somewhere in the top 10 in the nation. Livingston is a NBA level athlete at the wing position who explodes so effortlessly. Livingston has led Buchtel to a final four in his freshman season and the regional championship as a junior. Livingston played his grassroots with We All Can Go alongside other nationally ranked prospects including Mikey Williams. Livingston was inefficient for We All Can Go, posting numerous games with sub 35% FG during the live period in Birmingham. We All Can Go only won three games on the Adidas 3SSB circuit during the two live period weekends that Adidas hosted events. Livingston is clearly a top prospect in the country with his athletic gifts and physical tools, but I believe he has some strides to make when it comes to playing winning basketball. I'd like to see Livingston lead Buchtel to the final four once again and end his high school career on a high note.

[player_tooltip player_id="921744" first="Evan" last="Mahaffey"] 6'6 SF Moeller 2022: Potentially the best defender in Ohio's 2022 class, [player_tooltip player_id="921744" first="Evan" last="Mahaffey"] is a unique prospect. The last time I saw Mahaffey in person he finished with a stat-line of 9 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 blocks and 1 steal. That was against a nationally ranked and future state champion STVM. With an injury suffered early in the Spring holding him out the rest of the summer, Mahaffey hasn't been discussed as much as he deserves. I believe he is a prospect with the ability to contribute at the high major level and has been prioritized by Penn State, Kansas State and others. Many are writing off Moeller this season after graduating guys like [player_tooltip player_id="714474" first="Logan" last="Duncomb"] and [player_tooltip player_id="834668" first="Alex" last="Williams"], but I'd bet on Mahaffey and company to be very competitive in 2021-21.

[player_tooltip player_id="809612" first="Tom" last="House"], 6'5 SF Centerville 2022: A big summer for House, he really made the most of his opportunities with Centerville this June. Centerville is a perfect fit for House, as he can space the floor and provide swagger and toughness. House is a bad boy, that's just the best way to describe him. I think House's mentality will help him when he steps on a college campus, not backing down from anybody. I did find House more impressive for Centerville than All Ohio Red, not to discredit his performances for Red, but Centerville is where he plays the best basketball I see from him. Georgia seemed to make a push for him, we'll see if he wants to make the move down South after high school.

[player_tooltip player_id="809614" first="Sam" last="Marbury"], 6'5 SF Solon 2022: Marbury has been one of my favorite under the radar prospects for a while, Solon isn't competing for state titles anymore and he plays with [program_tooltip program_id='2078667' first='TNBA' last='']-Ohio, so I feel like he isn't discussed very often in discourse outside of Northeast Ohio. I think Marbury is going to be a solid college basketball player with his impressive play-making flashes at his size and defensive ability. Division II programs should be all over this kid.

[player_tooltip player_id="921762" first="Andrew" last="Harp"], 6'5 SF Elder 2022: There might be new kids on the block in the GCL-South this season, and Elder could be the team to beat with Harp and [player_tooltip player_id="1138753" first="Sean" last="Keller"] next to each other. Harp is a smooth shooting wing who can get the ball out of his hands in a hurry. An exceptional mover without the basketball, Harp fits in great in a half-court offense Elder wants to execute. Harp also starts on the football field, playing WR. I love kids who just want to compete and that certainly is a trait that Harp embodies.

[player_tooltip player_id="717620" first="Aboubacar" last="Cisse"], 6'4 SF Western Hills 2022: AB is another one of the top wing prospects from SW Ohio, as four of them have been spotlighted in this article alone. After averaging a double double for Western Hills as a Junior, AB played with C2K during the grassroots season. AB was mostly a defensive specialist for C2K, finding limited opportunities to showcase his offensive ability. AB is a prospect I don't have enough of a sample size to have an evaluation I'm very confident in, and will be trying to see him at least one more time during his senior season for Western Hills.
