Photo: Xan Shot You[/caption]
Below is a review of 17U (2022) prospects from southeastern Pennsylvania who played outstanding basketball during the July 2021 grassroots circuit and raised their stock with college coaches and scouts.

17U (2022)

[player_tooltip player_id="1192711" first="Chas" last="Kelley"] – 6’4” / Phelps School / Team Durant EYBL / Point Guard: This Texas native is a long, athletic player with a quick initial burst who is a “coach on the floor” style guard. Kelley has an excellent jump shot as well with range significantly beyond the arc. In July at the Peach Jam he drained 5 threes in a game. Last month Kelley also turned a lot of heads with his ability to penetrate and get to his mid-range skill set. Of late offers have come in for Kelley from places like Butler, Rutgers, Boson College, LaSalle, George Mason, DePaul, UMass and GWU. However, this point guard has major DI potential and we expect that after the impressive July he just posted he will be hearing from the big boys very soon..

Otega Oweh – 6’4” / Blair Academy (NJ) / Team Final EYBL / Wing: We know this prospect is from New Jersey, but he plays for Philadelphia based Team Final and was the 17U breakout star of the Peach Jam, so it would be a disservice if he was not mentioned in this write up. Additionally, on a team that includes superstars like Jalen Duren, [player_tooltip player_id="991185" first="Dereck" last="Lively II"], [player_tooltip player_id="991188" first="Jameel" last="Brown"], [player_tooltip player_id="991189" first="Justice" last="Williams"] and others, it’s not easy to stand out. However, Oweh managed to do just that in July 2021. The culmination of his outstanding July circuit came during a 3 game stretch at the Peach Jam where he averaged 19 points per run on 60% shooting from the field. Included in that span of stellar play was a 24 points and 6 rebounds effort in a win over Pro Skills. Overall at the Peach Jam he averaged 14.9 ppg., 4.9 rpg. and 1.8 spg. Of course Oweh and TF won the 17U championship. Oweh is constantly attacking the cup and thus constantly putting pressure on defenses. Once in the paint, he plays through contact and finishes strong. At the other end of the court, he is a plus defender. During July he picked up numerous DI offers including Georgia, Providence, Oklahoma and Pitt.

Wisler Sanon, II – 6’3” / Phelps School / Philly Pride National UAA / Combo Guard: Using momentum from a very strong performance at June’s Mid Atlantic Independent School Showcase as a springboard, Sanon absolutely crushed it on the July circuit. He continues to be one of the best transition finishers you will ever lay eyes on. Sanon’s owns a unique ability to weave through traffic at a high rate of speed, then gather himself at the last second so he can absorb contact and finish at the rim. In addition to his dribble-drive skills, his three point shooting was a bona-fide weapon as well. At the UA Association-Session I (GA), he drained 5 threes in a contest vs. Team Curry. At the other end, Sanon is an excellent team defender. A former DIII commit (NJIT), Sanon reopened his recruiting and is now hearing from the likes of Seton Hall, Southern Miss., Mount St. Mary’s, Cal State-Bakersfield, Temple, St. Francis (PA) and St. Peter’s (NJ).

[player_tooltip player_id="901951" first="Daniel" last="Skillings"] – 6’5” / Roman Catholic / Philly Pride National UAA / Shooting Guard: In late June Skillings was simply unstoppable at the Philly HS Live runs. Then starting on July 3rd at the Battle for The Bell (DE) and running through the UAA Finals (IN) at the end of the month, he continued to advance his stock at a ridiculous pace. In short, Skillings has assembled the most impressive summer of any prospect in the region. The long and athletic shooting guard is extremely smooth and appears to glide on the floor. He is a 3-level scoring machine who can get buckets from anywhere on the court. His ability to stop on a dime for a pull up jumper was especially impressive. Skillings is no slouch on the defensive end either. A rarity among offensive prospects of his elite caliber. His astonishing level of play on the grassroots circuit this past July garnered Skillings a last second invite to NBA-PA Top 100 Camp (Orlando, FL). More importantly, because of his play last month offers from DI schools have been pouring in.

Jaden Workman – 6’0” / Pope John Paul / PSB Philly / Combo Guard: Workman is an exciting backcourt prospect who simply exploded onto the recruiting scene during the summer grassroots circuit. Workman proved he is a capable of being a No. 1 / No. 2 option on offense and has the ability to score at all 3-levels. His 3-point stroke look much improved during the July live period. His scoring acumen is complimented by his elusive handles and ability to move the ball to an open teammate. At the Hoop Group Summer Jam Fest Workman posted multiple 15 points games. In late July at the Zero Gravity XL tournament, Workman’s smooth three point stroke was again on display. His weekend at the ZGXL event was highlighted by a 16 points and 6 dimes effort vs NJ Beasts. His high basketball IQ and court awareness make Workman a high level point guard we will be keeping an eye on going forward.
