Vernon. Play will tipoff Friday night with a full slate of action coming on Saturday before a champion is crowned on Sunday. I’ll be bringing coverage throughout the weekend, but with a focus on Indiana’s Class of 2023. Here are some front court players that I am looking forward to watching and evaluating.
Gavin Owens Gavin Owens 6'5" | PF Carmel | 2023 IN (Carmel H.S. 2023/Grand Park Premier 2023 Black)
I’m excited to get a more thorough evaluation of Owens this weekend as I haven’t seen him much in July. He is a versatile 6’5″ forward with some skill around the basket and can go rebound the basketball.
Fola Fayemi (Culver Academy 2023/Indiana Game 2023 Premier)
Fayemi is a little raw, but he is bouncy and incredibly long. I love the energy he plays with and has the ability to impact the game on the defensive end of the floor. Good rebounder.
Brandon Trilli Brandon Trilli 6'5" | SF Munster | 2023 State IN (Munster H.S. 2023/Indiana Game 2023 Premier)
One of my favorite prospects over the summer, Trilli will look to cap off a great month at the Grit Region Finals. Trilli is a beast on the interior with the skill and strength to finish through contact.
Zane Doughty Zane Doughty 6'8" | C Ben Davis | 2023 State IN (Ben Davis H.S. 2023/INB 2023 Elite)
Doughty is a legit 6’9″ with a lot of talent. He is a game-changing defensive presence at the rim and plays very hard on the offensive end as a rim-runner and roll man off of the ballscreen. One of Indiana’s best center prospects in the class of 2023.
Tyler Horton Tyler Horton 6'7" | C Warren Central | 2023 State IN (Warren Central H.S. 2023/INB 2023 Elite)
Horton plays hard on both ends of the floor with a great 6’7″ strong frame. Offensively he has some back-to-the-basket skill and holds his own on the block as a post defender as well.
Anthony Ball Anthony Ball 6'6" | PF Decatur Central | 2023 State IN (Beech Grove H.S. 2023/Team Teague 2023 Collins)
Ball is a strong-bodied four-man that gets it done inside. He is very athletic which allows him to elevate up high to finish above the rim and go up to get rebounds outside of his area. Really like his game.
David Meriwether (Indianapolis Metropolitan H.S. 2023/Team Teague 2023 Collins)
The 6’10” big man is intriguing just because of his size alone. He can be in the way defensively to block some shots and rebound, and offensively he finishes around the rim. Will be an interesting one to watch as he develops.
