After a condensed Nike EYBL regular season, 24 teams have advanced to the Peach Jam which will be held for the first time since 2019. There are still no fans allowed and limited media access, but a free livestream has helped to calm some of the frustration regarding the restrictive policies.

Indy Heat was one of the 24 teams selected to move on to the Peach Jam after posting a 4-3 regular season record. An early injury to Indiana commit C.J. Gunn (Lawrence North H.S. 2022) did not help the teams chances of competing for a championship, but they have held their own in his absence.

With their first Peach Jam game tipping off Tuesday night at 5:00 p.m. Eastern time against Team Thad, let’s take a look back at the standout performers from Indy Heat and also check-in on the few additional local kids playing for other EYBL teams around the country.

Indy Heat EYBL

[player_tooltip player_id="1063961" first="Fletcher" last="Loyer"] (Homestead H.S. 2022): 19.3 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 41.7% from 3 (20/48). The future Purdue Boilermaker has been excellent since arriving in North Augusta, South Carolina finishing the regular season 10th in scoring. His outstanding three-point shooting has helped carry Indy Heat in the absence of Gunn. Davis, a Louisville commit, has strung together some of the best basketball I have seen him play during the EYBL regular season. The 6’6" forward has attacked the basket well and finished around the rim while making a living on the offensive glass.

[player_tooltip player_id="870212" first="Tayshawn" last="Comer"] (Cathedral H.S. 2022): 7.7 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 3.2 apg. Comer has struggled a bit from the field, but still has delivered as a table-setter and floor-general as you would expect. There is no reason to believe that his percentages won’t begin to rise this week at the Peach Jam and he will solidify himself as a high-major caliber point guard.

[player_tooltip player_id="870219" first="Jalen" last="Jackson"] (Northrop H.S. 2022): 5.7 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 2.1 apg. The strong, 6’2" guard has really stepped up in an expanded role since the injury to C.J. Gunn. His strong play has resulted in a number of mid-major offers coming his way over the last several days. Jackson broke out with a 5 point, 8 rebound, 9 assist game in a hard-fought win over UPlay Canada.

Mac Irvin Fire
[caption id="attachment_1132839" align="alignright" width="197"] [player_tooltip player_id="529593" first="Jayden" last="Brewer"] (Combine Academy/Mac Irvin Fire)[/caption]

[player_tooltip player_id="529593" first="Jayden" last="Brewer"] (Combine Academy 2022): 9.0 ppg, 3.2rpg, 2.2 apg. The long, athletic lefty guard certainly held his own during the EYBL regular season despite his Mac Irvin Fire squad finishing 0-7. Brewer will be highly sought after by college programs after reclassifying to the 2022 class. He has heard from Ohio State, Minnesota, Cincinnati, BYU, UTEP, and Middle Tennessee State recently after his strong play with Mac Irvin Fire. They did not advance to the Peach Jam so it remains to be seen what his plan is for the final evaluation period.

Meanstreets

[player_tooltip player_id="769653" first="Jalen" last="Washington"] (Gary West Side H.S. 2022): 7.6 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 0.9 bpg. The 5-star forward and recent UNC commit has played very well on a balanced Meanstreets squad that rolled through the regular season with a 7-0 record. Washington continues to come back strong from a knee injury that has plagued him for awhile. His best game of the summer came in their last one, a 73-65 win over All Ohio Red to finish of the undefeated regular season. Washington scored 18 points on 7/8 shooting in that one. They begin Peach Jam play Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time against Team Melo.

Team Why Not

Kamari Lands (Prolific Prep 2022): 15.9 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 2.3 apg. Lands has been excellent in North Augusta so far as one of the better offensive players at the event. The Syracuse commit is extremely athletic and is really hard to stop off of the dribble. Lands averaged nearly three offensive rebounds per game as well using his length at 6’7" to dominate the glass. The 4-star prospect had a great showing, but Team Why Not went just 1-6 and did not advance to the Peach Jam.
