The name of the game is putting the ball in the basket. Some guys do it better than others.

Here’s a look at a few of the top returning shooters from the Wichita area (in alphabetical order):

Robert Basks, 6-foot guard, 2024, Wichita West:

Here a player to watch. Forced into action as a freshman, Basks held his own and shot a high percentage from deep. Basks hit 41% from behind the arc, highlighted by five 3-pointers against Wichita East. Basks grew a ton, finishing with 9.7 points per game in the final seven contests.

Brett Buckingham, 5-foot-9 guard, 2023, Wichita Classical:

A name not many know, Buckingham was one of the better shooters on the small-school scene. He hit at a 41% clip, knocking down 35 triples as a sophomore. Buckingham is an efficient shooter from every level, connecting on 52% of all his shots and tallying 10.3 points per contest. His teammate, [player_tooltip player_id="1212167" first="Jordy" last="Dolloff"], also shot 41% from deep.

[player_tooltip player_id="946254" first="Kyle" last="Grill"], 6-foot-5 guard, 2022, Maize:

By showing good shot selection, Grill shot a remarkable 50% from behind the arc as a junior. Grill is such a good athlete and versatile player, his prowess from deep can get overlooked. But his percentage on 3-point attempts was one of the best in the state.

[player_tooltip player_id="1139917" first="Jevon" last="Hill"], 6-foot-8 forward, 2022, Wichita Trinity:

Hill won’t be lighting up the scoreboard in Wichita this year. He’ll be attending the Legacy School of Sports and Science in Texas. Defenses in Kansas are breathing a sigh of relief, because Hill is incredibly tough to stop. Widely considered one of the best shooters in Kansas, Hill takes advantage of elite length and a high release to get shots off. He buried eight 3-pointers in a game last year.

[player_tooltip player_id="1080189" first="Eli" last="Shetlar"], 6-foot-4 guard, 2023, Andover:

Shetlar can do it all, including hit from deep. A long, slender versatile threat, he can run the point or slide to a shooting guard/wing. Regardless where you play him, he is one of the sweetest shooters in the state, hitting 45% from deep. He connected on 42 3’s last year, highlighted by seven against Ark City and six against Campus.

[player_tooltip player_id="891900" first="Fontaine" last="Williams"], 6-foot-2 guard, 2022, Derby (pictured):

The problem with guarding Williams is, if you don’t play off, he’s going to blow right by you. He’s got a crossover dribble, hesitation moves and a lightning-quick first step. So with defenders playing off, Williams hit 41 3-pointers as a junior, connecting at a 37% clip.
