Continue ReadingIt was a big week for the PrepHoops Circuit, with several stops throughout the country. I was in Phoenix checking on our Hustle Region, covering the Brawl For the Ball. The two-day event took place from Saturday, July 3rd through Sunday, July 4th. The event featured over 40 teams ranging from 15U to 17U. It also featured several talented guys with the ability to change the scoreboard. In this article, we take a look at our top bucket getters from the event.
Malik Payton Malik Payton 6'1" | SG Florence | 2021 State AZ 6’0 CG Team RHJ 2022 – Payton has established himself as one of the top overall bucket getters on the circuit. Versatile scorer that can space the floor or slash for two. First game out he had a 17 point performance.
Exodus Ayers Exodus Ayers 6'2" | CG La Cueva | 2023 New E 6’2 CG ABC Basketball 2023 – Ayers is going on my “Score Like We Breathe” team. He seems to put up quiet numbers using a combination of a mid-range game, and transition finishes. Ayers is good at getting right to the free-throw line, stopping on a dime, raising up, and burring the jumper. He did this time and time again in his 21 point performance against Roots academy.
Ahmad Jacquet 6’2 SG Lathrop 2023 – I was sorry to see Jacquet got hurt before his last game. Up until then, the silky smooth wing was proving to be a certified bucket. He was an accurate shooter from 3 and showed a unique array of finishing moves around the rim. The more I watched him, the more impressed I became with his offensive skill.
Javarion Hogan Javarion Hogan 5'10" | CG Kellis | 2023 State AZ 6’0 CG AZ Phenoms 2023 – I’m just going to assume that if Javarion Hogan Javarion Hogan 5'10" | CG Kellis | 2023 State AZ is playing, he’s going to get buckets. Once again this weekend, he impressed with his ability to put the ball in the basket. Hogan shot it well from both the 3 and mid-range, but also picked up additional buckets with his finishing ability around the rim.
Vaughn Weems 6’5 SF Fuego 2023 – I felt like Fuego had several guys that could get theirs, Weems may have been the best. The lefty was accurate from distance but scored off the bounce utilizing a nice 1 on 1 game. Weems stayed in attack mode, initiating contact causing defenders to send him to the line. He put together several monster scoring performances, including 23 against AZ Junior Ballerz.
William Benjamin Jr. 6’0 CG ABC New Mexico 2022 – I’m a big believer in Benjamin’s speed and quickness. The CG has a burst that allowed him to gobble up Real Estate in transition, and blow by defenders in half-court settings. He also used his two-way ability, to turn defense into instant offense.
Ivory Washington Ivory Washington 6'1" | PG Coconino | 2023 State AZ 6’0 PG Flagtown Kings 2023 (featured image) – Washington really earned his way on the list. While I never watched a full game, every time I watched him play he was scoring the basketball. Washington did a ton of damage from behind the line. He displayed a nice shot and was accurate when he got his feet set.
