Many prospects took a break from the grassroots season to compete in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Showcase in Duncanville this past weekend. Over 150 schools attended the event, providing me with an opportunity to see both new and old faces play alongside their high school teammates in a tournament atmosphere.

With that in mind, here are some of the top-performing 2022 prospects from the TABC Showcase:

[player_tooltip player_id="889576" first="Anthony" last="Black"] | 2022 | 6’7’’ Combo Guard | Coppell HS - As expected, Black showed off his athleticism and defensive versatility in Duncanville. His instincts were great, timing his leaps well when challenging shots. The No. 3 ranked prospect in our Prep Hoops Texas 2022 Rankings was also excellent in transition, scoring at the rim and finishing lobs. Additionally, I loved the way he took advantage of mismatches on offense, posting up smaller defenders for high-percentage looks.

[player_tooltip player_id="1008477" first="Devank" last="Rane"] | 2022 | 5’7’’ Point Guard | Coppell HS - I’ve had the chance to see a lot of Rane while scouting Coppell for the past few years. He is always solid. The 5-foot-7-inch guard is the perfect glue player for the Cowboys. He is a selfless teammate who does whatever is in the best interest of his team. He is a capable shooter from deep, a smart decision maker, and a generous facilitator who is willing to get the ball into the hands of one of his two superstar teammates. It may not always show up in the box score, but Rane’s contributions are invaluable to Coppell’s success.

[player_tooltip player_id="958896" first="CJ" last="Ford"] | 2022 | 6’1’’ Point Guard | Duncanville HS - Ford was a confident and reliable three-point shooter on Saturday. He was a decisive passer when distributing too. On defense, the Duncanville floor general sacrificed his body to take charges on numerous occasions, exhibiting his toughness. All that said, my favorite part about Ford’s performance was the vocal leadership he displayed, constantly communicating with his guys throughout the contest. That is exactly the type of thing you want to see from a soon-to-be senior point guard.

[player_tooltip player_id="1052074" first="Camron" last="Amboree"] | 2022 | 6’2’’ Combo Guard | Shadow Creek HS - I was not able to see a ton of Amboree this weekend, but the small sample I did see was incredibly impressive. His shot-making in particular really stood out. He knocked down a variety of jumpers, including three triples near the end of a game, all of which were of a high degree of difficulty. The Shadow Creek guard is a fearless shooter with deep range from behind the arc and can hit shots off the dribble as well as from the catch. He definitely improved his stock during the TABC Showcase.

[player_tooltip player_id="889568" first="Terrance" last="Arceneaux"] | 2022 | 6’7’’ Small Forward | Beaumont United HS - Arceneaux’s explosive vertical ability is exciting to watch. He utilized that to turn back shots in the post and finish above the rim when attacking the basket off the dribble. The 2022 wing also had some good-looking finesse finishes. His three-point shooting was solid as well. Beyond that, he helped fuel a second half comeback victory vs. a talented Duncanville team while playing them in their home gym, further proving that no moment is too big for him.

[player_tooltip player_id="889591" first="Damonze" last="Woods"] | 2022 | 6’6’’ Power Forward | Amarillo HS - Woods played very well within the flow of Amarillo’s offense on Saturday. He made several key plays down the stretch in their win over Coppell, including knocking down a spot-up mid-range jumper from the elbow, assisting on a transition basket to beat the opposing teams’ full court press, and converting on a pair of bonus free throws to close out the game. Furthermore, the Amarillo forward set strong screens for his ball handlers and was a lock-down defender on the ball. He had a terrific two-way showing on the second day of the showcase.

[player_tooltip player_id="1205208" first="Ringo" last="Deng"] | 2022 | 6’6’’ Small Forward | South Grand Prairie HS - Deng is a long and rangy wing prospect who can produce on both sides of the floor. He elevates very well, and that showed up in his rebounding, shot blocking, and slashing. The 6-foot-6-inch small forward was responsible for a chase down block in transition that was one of my favorite highlights of the weekend. He showed that he is a serviceable shooter from the field, but was at his best when he got downhill and into the paint. Moreover, Deng was fabulous on the offensive boards, consistently crashing in addition to following his own shots.
