The IBCA Top 100 Showcase at Ben Davis took place last weekend and it was the first time college coaches were allowed to come out and watch prospects in person this year. The best players in the state were in action for the loaded event and here are some of the takeaways from the second session for Team Red.

[player_tooltip player_id="870244" first="Gavin" last="Schippert"] (6-7 PF/Evansville Reitz/2022)

Schippert was very impressive last weekend. He has a great frame and is well built already. He isn’t extremely long, but his frame more than makes up for it. He has solid footwork that allows him to be very effective in the post. He also has soft touch around the rim, able to finish with either hand. Schippert has the ability to step out and hit 3’s and is a underrated passer as well.

[player_tooltip player_id="1168145" first="A.J." last="Dixon"] (6-5 SG/Merrillville/2022)

Dixon has terrific size for a guard. He can play either backcourt position but is more fit for playing as a secondary ball handler. He has great length that allows him to play even bigger than he already is. He is best attacking the basket but can be a bit out of control at times. He’s an athletic finisher, however. Defensively he has quick hands and feet and with his length has the ability to be a lockdown defender if he wants.

Landon Biegel (6-5 SF/Oak Hill/2023)

Biegel is a taller and longer wing who still needs to add some strength. At this stage, he is more of a standstill shooter from the perimeter but is someone who can knock down almost anything he looks at. He does a good job moving without the ball and reading defense on screens. He isn’t going to beat you off of the dribble, but he has shown the ability to put the ball on the floor if the defense overplays a closeout.

[player_tooltip player_id="796015" first="Kyle" last="Thomas"] (6-4 SG/Cloverdale/2022)

Thomas has good size and a bulky frame in the backcourt. His size allows him to shoot over most defenders and it helps that he has great range. He constantly makes from NBA range and does so with ease. He can create off of the dribble or on the catch. Good, repeatable release as well. He tends to have underrated athleticism and he is a good offensive rebounder and can finish through and around contact at the rim.

Ladaion Barnes (6-3 SG/Hammond Morton/2022)

Barnes is a long and lanky off guard who has good athletic ability. He is best in transition and getting after it in the open floor. He can get moved off of his line when he attacks in the half court, so in that type of setting he tends to see most of his action around the perimeter or free throw line extended. He has a good shot and good range from deep. His size and length allows him to be a plus defender on the other end of the floor and usually sparks his offense.

[player_tooltip player_id="868247" first="Jaxson" last="Gould"] (6-5 SF/Warsaw/2023)

Gould is a long and slender wing with good athletic ability. He is most effective from the perimeter, a good shooter who can create for himself as well as produce off of the catch. Although he didn’t shoot the ball great last weekend, he was always using good form and never forcing the issue. He loves being involved in the action, however, and elevates quickly off of his feet allowing him to be a pretty solid rebounder. He can get stronger though which would only make him more effective on the offensive end.

Deagian Sullivan (6-1 G/Mishawaka Marian/2023)

Sullivan is a shorter and extremely quick guard. He is very good attacking in transition and also can hit from the perimeter. He has a repeatable release but one that isn’t extremely effective for opponents with length. He hit a few outside shots last weekend, but most were on catch and shoot opportunities and without a lot of defensive pressure.

[player_tooltip player_id="1168248" first="Nick" last="Schwarte"] (6-5 SF/South Ripley/2022)

Schwarte is a long and taller wing who can play multiple positions on the perimeter. He is a terrific shooter and was one of the better ones I saw last weekend. His size allows him to shoot over defenders with ease. He is more of a spot up shooter, specifically from the corner or short corner, but he is extremely effective. The next step is being able to use that length with more versatility on the offensive end.

Nicholas Thompson (6-2 SG/Bishop Luers/2023)

Thompson is a long and athletic guard. He typically is best attacking the rim and being aggressive towards the defense. He has a decent shot form, but didn’t hit a ton last weekend. At times he can over dribble, but he’s alway in attack mode which is better than not. His length and athleticism help him on the defensive end of the floor.

Jamie Hodges Jr. (5-9 PG/Michigan City/2023)

Hodges is a smaller guard but one that is extremely quick. He is a very good penetrator and one that can get into the lane with ease. He typically makes very good decisions once he gets in the lane, but he can improve his passing just a bit. Has a decent shot, but definitely more drive first. He’ll be a very solid floor general and team leader moving forward.
