<p>The CCS Open Championship first round of games began Friday Night. Prep Hoops landed at Archbishop Mitty to watch the number 1 seed take on 8 seed Palma from Salinas. Going into this game Palma was 9-0, while Mitty was sporting a 14-1 record. The absence of Palma’s 6’6 Jr post, [player_tooltip player_id="947817" first="Joseph" last="Finley"] was evident right from the beginning. Palma tried to counter Mitty’s huge size advantage with small ball. All guards under 6ft, who moved, and passed well, with good outside shooting, limiting themselves to one shot. Mitty was clicking on all cylinders from the start, ending any hope of a upset early 79-40. Standouts for the game.</p>
<p>Mitty’s <em><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="706270" first="Mike" last="Mitchell"] 6’3 guard</strong></em> played his usual floor game good decision making and solid passing. He knocked down a couple of nice transition 3’s in the game, he had four 3’s. 14pts, 5 rebounds. He did his work in 3 quarters.</p>
<p><em><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="946941" first="Arrish" last="Bhandal"] 6’10 post</strong></em> pretty much had his way inside scoring 18pts in the first half, and was the games leading scorer. He finished with 18 pts, 7 rebounds in 3 quarters of play. </p>
<p><em><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="775753" first="Nigel" last="Burris"] 6’7 Forward</strong></em> showed some versatility in this game. He rebounded well, handled the ball in the open court, made good decisions with ball. In one stretch of the game he hit back to back 3’s. 13pts, 9 rebounds, 3 assists. In 3 quarters.</p>
<p><em><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="946947" first="Aidan" last="Burke"] 6’3 2022 guard</strong></em> shot the 3 ball well, He takes good shots in rhythm, transition or in half court. A solid defender, who’s been a consistent contributor for this team. two 3’s. 6pts, 4 rebounds, 2 assists. In 3 quarters.</p>
<p><em><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="950938" first="Derek" last="Sangster"] 6’6 Wing/forward</strong></em>. Has put himself on the radar, the rising Sophomore knocked down two open 3’s, he ran the court well, and scored inside including a nice dunk. 14pts, 5 rebounds.</p>
<p><em><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1129070" first="Aaron" last="Garibay"] 6’0 Unsigned Senior</strong></em> from Palma ended his season on a good note. He plays hard, and unselfish basketball, handling, and finding open teammates for shots, while managing to knocking down two 3’s of his own. 10pts.</p>
<p><em><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="947388" first="Nate" last="Jean Pierre"] 5’10 PG of Palma</strong></em> showed his ability to be aggressive, by penetrating and passing it out to open shooters after Mitty’s big men collapsed on him. He had good finishes around the basket, and a floater. 7pts, 5 rebounds, 2 stls. Good on ball defense.</p>

<p>Archbishop Mitty moves on to play Halfmoon Bay a 71-68 winner over WCAL power Bellarmine who was missing 6’10 [player_tooltip player_id="946527" first="Ryan" last="Kiachian"]. In other Open games Riordan took down Woodside Priory 77-60, while Saint Ignatius handled Serra in a close contest 54-46</p>
