Roswell brought it tonight and didn’t step off the gas pedal against last years state champions. In the end they came a little short of the task, but wow what a game. Here is a list of standouts from the State Semi finals.
Isaiah Carr Isaiah Carr 6'11" | C Las Cruces | 2022 State NM 6’11″ C, 2022, Las Cruces High School: Carr was back at it once again defending and being a major rim protector for the Las Cruces Bulldawgs. At 6’11″ Carr brings a major presence for the Bulldawgs. He has very strong footwork and moves through the paint very well. His mid range game is strong and he has crazy above the rim presence. Roswell did an excellent job fronting the big man and putting him in major trouble throughout the game. They took away a lot of his inside game. Carr was able to fight through Roswell’s defense and do what he does best sending Las Cruces to another State Championship game.
William Deuce Benjamin 6’2″ G, 2022, Las Cruces High School: (Featured) Deuce played great again in these state semi finals. He made some big time jump shots and attacked from all levels. He is very hard to guard with his speed and his solid ball handling skills. Roswell struggled to trap him in mid court and couldn’t defend him on the perimeter. Deuce is extremely shifty and attacks the rim like no other player in New Mexico.
Taymon Burrola Taymon Burrola 6'3" | SG Roswell | 2021 State NM 6’3″ G, 2021, Roswell High School: Taymon is the floor general for Roswell High School. He has great spacing and can create plays for his team. He has great court vision and is a strong facilitator. Las Cruces was somewhat fooled by Taymon’s style of play. He attacks nicely and has a very nice shot. Taymon played great and definitely gave the Las Cruces Bulldawgs a very hard time.
