Here among the remote forests, night time lows rarely reach above freezing and the cold from the surrounding area could easily be a contributor to some of the cold-blooded players found within the conference. A number of high level teams compete in the High Desert Conference and each season there is a tough battle to see who will be able to take the state bid and make a run for the championship. Continue reading for a look at a few of the top players from the 1A DI High Desert All-Conference team.
Gage Stoddard Gage Stoddard 5'11" | PG Grace | 2021 State ID , Grace: Gage earned his conference player of the year honor after leading Grace as a tremendous offensive presence. Stoddard had another great season of shooting from outside and his three point shooting ability makes sure that defenders have to guard him almost before he crosses half court. This allows him to drive past defenders that close out too aggressively and he is a great finisher at the rim as well as an excellent free throw shooter.
Tyler Wanstrom, Butte County: Wanstrom was one of the bright spots during a tough year for Butte County. Tyler scored in bunches this season and was a difficult matchup for a lot of defenders and opposing teams. Tyler liked to get his buckets from anywhere on the court and he was especially good at driving to the rim and finishing through contact. On defense, Wanstrom plays with lots of energy and constantly converts his steals into fast break opportunities. Tyler will look to help Butte County have a more successful season as he returns for his senior campaign in 2022.
Carson Parkinson, Challis: Carson was a really solid player for Challis during this past season. His rebounding and scoring ability helped Challis out a lot and he will look to add to his game during his senior campaign next year. Carson is a really great rebounder and rim protector who knows how to read where the ball will bounce after a missed shot and he is also aware of how to time out when he needs to block a shot.
