The #PHSpringKickoff came to the MileHighCIty and was a successful event for teams not only in-state, but there were also out-of-state teams from Idaho, Oklahoma, Wyoming all the way to Seattle. The out-of-state teams came and competed, and here we focus on five players that caught our eye.

Lyndon Beadles – Oklahoma Irish

Beadles is a player that played under complete control and looked comfortable on the court. He did the small things like boxing out on every shot that went up, diving for loose balls, and setting hard screens. He also was a great communicator defensively that was switching onto different positions and holding his own. He scored in bunches, particularly from the high post, ran the floor well, and found holes in the defense to get easy baskets. Beadles is a hard worker that is not afraid to do the dirty work, and it was refreshing to see a player stand out in ways that is not only offensively.

Jefferson Neary – Wyoming Power

Neary is a sharpshooter that the Wyoming Power squad made sure to find, and opponents had to check the moment that he crossed halfcourt. He can shoot it from deep, and his ability to make the right decision made it easier for teammates to trust in him. They set hard screens for him, had set plays where he came off ready to shoot, and was under control every time he touched the ball. Neary has good size at 6’1 and goes inside and rebounds with the trees. He often started the break himself and passed and screened away to find a hole in the defense. If his feet were set, just get back on defense as he had multiple games with multiple 3-pointers and was a standout on the weekend.

[player_tooltip player_id="969588" first="McKay" last="Anderson"] – Idaho Premier

Anderson was exceptionally well on Day 1 as there was not a shot that he didn’t like. Anderson got himself going early, and in a close game where Premier came up a bit short, he was the player that stood out for me. Anderson shot light out for the weekend and forced defenses to play him tight, in which he just went by them for easy scoring opportunities at the rim. He has great gravity and pull, which opened up the rest of the defense, created some baskets for himself, and hustled all weekend long to get more baskets. Anderson played lead guard at times and played within the offense’s flow, and was a player to watch as he had big scoring games.

Will Anderson -- Oklahoma Irish

Anderson had a big 17 points in Oklahoma Irish’s win one game to lead the way and followed that up with another game where he controlled the game from inside on the court’s defensive end. Anderson is a big man that runs the floor well and gets out and transitions, and finishes with his soft touch around the rim. He also showcased a back-to-the-basket game which separated him from most big men at the event. Anderson makes smart reads out of the post, feels the double coming, and either gets rid of the ball or re-establishes position. He alters shots at the rim, keeps the ball high, and is an aggressive finisher who did what he wanted for the weekend.
