As the college basketball season winds down, the recruiting ratchets up. In this crazy year, several quality local prospects still remain. In this article, we break down some of the local prospects still available.

[player_tooltip player_id="927116" first="Cameron" last="Kimble"] 6’4 SG Clark (#6)

Best Skill: Iso Scoring

Best Level Fit: Low Major

Evaluation: The two things that people need to understand about Kimble, is that he’s a top-notch scorer and he has done it against top-notch completion throughout his career. He has good size to play the wing in college, and I believe his ability to be a defender both on ball and in help situations will allow him to get on someone’s floor.

[player_tooltip player_id="927135" first="Mason" last="Mich’l"] 6’7 PF Desert Oasis (#11)

Best Skill: Interior scoring

Best Level Fit: D2

Evaluation: Mich’l fits nicely into the sleeper category. When the 6’7 PF is good, he’s really good as evident by his performance at the hustle SZN kickoff a few weeks ago. For schools needing size and athleticism, he seems like an obvious choice. In a normal year, Mich’l would probably be off the board already, as it is, the school that lands Mich’l has the opportunity to look like geniuses two years from now.

[player_tooltip player_id="1110135" first="Kiree" last="Huie"] 6’8 PF Desert Valley Prep (#15)

Best Skill: Rebounding

Best Fit: Juco

Evaluation: The biggest thing that Huie has going for him is the effort and energy he plays with. Combine that with his size and strength, and you have an intriguing prospect on your hand. I think Huie would be best served by going the JUCO route first, simply to give himself an opportunity to improve his overall offensive game. Once accomplished, 4-year schools will be getting a bruiser with the ability to go get it off the glass and score down low for you.

[player_tooltip player_id="1134727" first="Calvin" last="Schmeling"] 6’5 SG Clark (#12)

Best Skill: Shooting

Best Level Fit: D2

Evaluation: I was recently at a workout with Schmeling where he shot the ball lights out. Fortunately, this is not an anomaly for the Wisconsin transfer. Schmeling spent most of the fall gaining exposure with several different teams. One thing that remained consistent, was his consistency. He showed a lot of dawg, as well as the ability to knock down open shots, two terrific traits for any potential student athlete prospect.

[player_tooltip player_id="1025207" first="Vinny" last="Veikalas"] 6’3 SG Valley (#14)

Best Skill: Defensive versatility

Best Level Fit: NAIA

Evaluation: Veikalas is an absolute Bull, capable of overpowering opposing guards. He’s tough and strong, especially when driving to the basket. I’ve talked to several NAIA coaches, and the consensus has been, that he would be a big-time player at the NAIA level. It makes sense, his ability to defend both wings and undersized post could come in handy, and his aforementioned interior scoring would be valued by most programs.

Follow Prep Hoops
