Another opportunity for unsigned seniors to showcase their abilities, measurables, intangibles, and athleticism comes this Saturday in Kansas City with an Unsigned Senior Event hosted at Kansas Christian College. With a mixture of Kansas and Missouri talent coming in, it should be a great day of hoops. Let’s take a quick preview of some of the names coming.

[player_tooltip player_id="1072893" first="Garrett" last="Athon"], 6’4 Forward, Jefferson West: A gritty, hard nosed forward who really loves the game. He averaged 13 points and 6 rebounds per game this year for the Tigers and was honorable mention All Big 7 this season. He can bang inside and plays very physical in the painted area, and has catch and shoot 3 point ability as well. He is also a reliable free throw shooter.

Austin Smith, 5’9 Point Guard, Junction City: A blur with the ball and craftiness with his handle, Smith could be a stand out from the point guard spot Saturday with his ability to create off the dribble in both transition and in the half court. He put together a solid career at Junction City in a very guard centric offense. He can get in to the lane and kick to shooters, or dump off to bigs as well.

Javin Shaw, 6’3 Guard, Liberty: A breakout candidate this season for 26-5 state runner up Liberty, Shaw is a great guard who will be able to showcase his ability to play at the next level. He averaged 9 points, 2 rebounds, and nearly 2 assists per game amongst a loaded roster and was pivotal in their success this season, making big time plays in huge games. He had couple of scoring outbursts this season of 25+ point games, showcasing the scoring chops, but he brings the ability to guard multiple positions, the IQ to make guys better, and the versatility on offense to make an offense go. Shaw will be one of the big time guards at this event.

[player_tooltip player_id="986306" first="Jaishon" last="Jefferson"], 6’2 Wing, Lincoln Prep: A versatile wing that I got a chance to see live earlier this season. A bit of a tweener, he has some solid guard, and forward skills to play with and is a player that could be used in a variety of ways on the court. Defensively he can sit and guard guards with his quickness and length while also having the ability to block shots from the help side. Jefferson is really comfortable and effective playing in isolation from both the high post and on the wing, with a really strong and quick rip drive attacking the rim. He also has the capability to stretch the floor, especially shooting off the dribble.

[player_tooltip player_id="824177" first="Elijah" last="Corner"], 6’5 Wing, Ruskin (Pictured): Another versatile wing hybrid player with the skills to be comfortable on the perimeter and be effective inside. Corner plays with a ton of energy on the floor on both ends and that coupled with his athleticism make him an extremely active basketball player. He should be able to really showcase his game well in this setting as the athletic traits he has will pop. Corner earned a bunch of awards this past season, 1st Team All Conference, All District Team, and All State for Class 5.

Billy Dillon, 6’ Guard, Shawnee Mission Northwest: SMNW had a great season and Billy Dillon came on strong to help form a great back court for them. He is a hard nosed guard with great ability in the transition game, came finish around the rim, makes smart plays with the basketball, and filled his role nicely. He averaged 5 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist, and about .5 steals per game.

Other Names To Watch Saturday

Dane Foster, 6’6 Forward, Sedalia

Isaac Koppang, 6’3 Wing, Kansas City East Christian

Brett Main, 6’2 Guard, Central High School

[player_tooltip player_id="946207" first="Kris" last="Daniels"], 5’11 Point Guard, Free State
