Names to Know: 2022 Big Men (Part II)

<p>With AAU season just underway, college coaches are starting to add names to their 2022 recruiting lists. With big men being in high demand, I decided to highlight some of the better post players I have seen this past year.</p> <p><strong>C [player_tooltip player_id="953516" first="Jack" last="Klinger"] 6-8 Lake Brantley AAU: Team Speights</strong></p> <p>Another big man making a huge leap in production since his sophomore year was [player_tooltip player_id="953516" first="Jack" last="Klinger"]. At a legitimate 6-8, Klinger can finish over both shoulders, has great footwork and his sneaky athleticism allows him to put defenders in posters at any given time. On the year the big man finished with averages of 16.0 PPG, 7.1 RPG and 1.6 BPG all while shooting an efficient 67 percent from the field. Off the court, Klinger is a big time student holding a 4.4 GPA and scored a 1340 on the SAT on his first try. Recruiting wise, he has heard from a few Division I and Division II schools.</p> <p><strong>PF [player_tooltip player_id="712115" first="Justin" last="Abson"] 6-9 North Broward Prep AAU: Nightrydas Elite</strong></p> <p>For the last two years Abson has been one of the best big men in South Florida. The power forward is not afraid to mix it up underneath the basket, but also has the ability to face up and make a move or score from the mid range where he is deadly. As a junior, Abson finished the year with averages of 16.8 PPG, 12.0 RPG, 3.3 APG and 3.2 BPG on a team that went 14-7 playing against some of the best teams South Florida had to offer. According to Verbalcommits.com the forward holds offers from Troy, FGCU, and Stetson.</p> <p><strong>PF [player_tooltip player_id="814931" first="Matthew" last="Webster"] 6-8 Bishop McLaughlin AAU: Gamespeed Elite (Orange)</strong></p> <p>This past year Webster decided to transfer to Bishop McLaughlin from Pasco to gain exposure. As a Sophomore, Webster dominated in the go to guy role for Pasco, but at McLaughlin he excelled as the starting center alongside two high major prospects. While his numbers went down, Mclaughlin played one of the toughest nonconference schedules playing in the Beach Ball Classic (A National Tournament) and fell just shy of a state championship falling in overtime to Calvary Christian. On the year the big man put up nightly numbers of 6.9 PPG 6.7 RPG and 1.0 BPG. The forward can stretch the floor out to the 3-point line, and scores from the mid-range often in addition to scoring in close.   This past March, Division II Fairmont State offered Webster his first scholarship.</p> <p><strong>PF [player_tooltip player_id="955800" first="James" last="Morrow"] 6-7 Andrew Jackson AAU: Duval Suns </strong></p> <p>As a junior, Morrow took on a much bigger role for an Andrew Jackson team that has become a regular in the class 3A State Final 4 in Lakeland. Jackson basketball is known for its rugged defense holding opponents to low point totals and playing their entire bench to maintain defensive intensity. On the season, Morrow was the teams third leading scorer with 7.4 PPG on a team that averaged a hair over 60 PPG to go along with 5.0 RPG. The rising senior was a key interior defender, and presence on the interior for the Tigers and will only continue to improve with more playing time. Physically Morrow has long arms at 6-7 and a frame that will add muscle easily. Recruiting wise he has received interest from Division I and Division II teams and his recruiting should continue to grow this AAU season.</p> <p><strong>SF/PF [player_tooltip player_id="712105" first="Ven-Allen" last="Lubin"] Orlando Christian Prep AAU: CP25</strong></p> <p>Lubin is a bit different than most of the players on this list in that he often plays on the perimeter. While he is a load to handle in the post the combo forward has the ability to grab and go off of defensive rebounds and attack the basket from the perimeter. In each of his three years of varsity basketball OCP has made it to the state championships winning two out of three. This past season the Warriors won State posting an undefeated 27-0 record. With a roster loaded with scholarship level talent, Lubin posted numbers of 12.1 PPG, 7.1 RPG and 1.2 SPG. So far Lubin has offers from Florida, South Florida, St. Johns, Alabama, Stetson, and Georgia St according to verbalcommits.com.</p>
