In this article, I’ll be covering the NEBRASKA players on OSA’s 3SSB 17U roster. There is also incredible talent from Iowa on the roster but I’ll be sticking to the players from the state for this preview. This team is going to make a lot of noise this AAU season.

[player_tooltip player_id="945976" first="Danair" last="Dempsey"] - 6’7 Forward - Papillion La-Vista South

Dempsey is a forward in the class of 2021 that should turn a great spring into significant college interest. He is an excellent athlete that uses his athletic ability to be an intimidating rim protector. Dempsey has shown the ability to handle the ball in the open court and loves to thunderously dunk it if he gets the opportunity. He has also shown that he can hit the three. Colleges should definitely take a flier on this versatile forward.

[player_tooltip player_id="1049513" first="Gil" last="Jengmer"] - 6’8 Forward - Grand Island Central Catholic

Jengmer has continued to show improvement in his game every year. He was a beast during the state tournament and showed some tantalizing potential. His game revolves around the rim where he uses his massive size to carve out post position early. He finished at a great rate with both hands as well. Jengmer is not very explosive vertically, but he has incredible length on top of a big body to compensate for it. He showed some ability to contain ballhandlers in the pick and roll and ran the floor hard consistently. Once Jengmer puts it all together, you should see his stock explode.

[player_tooltip player_id="890480" first="Jai’Lyn" last="Spears"] - 6’4 Guard - Omaha Bryan

Spears is an athletic guard out of Omaha that recently reclassified to the 2022 class. The passion that Spears plays with is infectious. I love players that can bring energy to their team at any point in a game. He’s also the player you call when your team needs a bucket. Spears has a knack for putting the ball in the hoop, especially around the rim. He can finish in all types of ways, including going up and dunking on your head! Definitely a player to keep your eye on this summer.

[player_tooltip player_id="890583" first="Kyle" last="Ingwerson"] - 6’6 Guard - Papillion

Ingwerson is a legitimate 6 foot 6 guard. This year he showed phenomenal ball skills at his height and showed fluidity running the pick and roll. He was also one of the best shooters in the state, with a picturesque form he kept consistent with every shot. He was virtually automatic when spotting up. When Ingwerson wasn’t knocking down triples, he was taking advantage of mismatches down low. He showed great strength and footwork around the hoop this year. Ingwerson is most definitely a D1 talent, and I expect the offers to start flooding in as soon as he gets that first one.

[player_tooltip player_id="890569" first="PJ" last="Davis"] - 6’4 Guard - Omaha Central

Davis was an excellent defender this year for Central. He is a strong guard that could lock up guards but also had experience covering bigs as Central was a shorter team this year. This only benefitted him and showed his versatility as a defender. Davis was also good for a few three-pointers per game. He does a great job of getting out in transition and is more than capable of making plays for his teammates. Davis will be a key glue guy for this team over the AAU season.

[player_tooltip player_id="890572" first="Reggie" last="Thomas"] - 6’1 Guard - Omaha Westside

Thomas was impactful in almost every category for Westside this year. He has such a strong frame for a guard, and he uses it to bully guards and embarrass bigs as he makes his way to the hoop. Thomas does not shy away from physicality and shows that on both ends of the court. He is continuing to get better as a facilitator and knocked down 50 three-pointers at a 37% clip this year. Thomas is also a vocal leader that will right the ship for his team anytime things get rocky.
