With the AAU season ready to get underway and many kids not getting much attention due to Covid 19 over the past calendar year, we will take a look at some of the possible stock risers in VA as we head into the spring. We continue by taking a look at some of the rising senior bigs I expect to receive college attention here soon.

[player_tooltip player_id="815577" first="Maliq" last="Brown"] | 6’8” | Blue Ridge/Team Loaded VA

Brown is already widely considered the best big man in the 2022 class in VA, and he already holds a slew of offers from high major programs across the country. However, he was robbed of multiple opportunities to be seen by coaches as he was just starting to come into his own as a dominant big man prospect, and this year on a Loaded team that is full of high major talent he’ll get his opportunity to get seen by plenty. He’s a super efficient and productive player that doesn’t need many sets run for him, he doesn’t have much flash to his game but he’s athletic and plays hard on both ends and he has shown that he’s willing to accept whatever role will help his team win moving forward.

[player_tooltip player_id="798689" first="Houston" last="Emory"] | 6’10” | Blue Ridge/Team Loaded VA

Emory is Brown’s teammate both on Blue Ridge and Team Loaded, and after missing all of his sophomore year with a back injury he’s come back improved and ready to prove himself against the best of the best. A blue collar and defensive minded guy, Emory is surprisingly athletic and mobile at his size, he’s a big time rim protector and rebounder and he’s shown improved range and touch from multiple spots on the floor. He’s starting to see his recruitment pick up with some bigger schools, but he’ll have more schools get involved when they see him against high level competition on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit.

[player_tooltip player_id="1107823" first="Miles" last="Webb"] | 6’7” | St. Stephen’s St. Agnes/New World

Webb is a guy who has waited his turn at one of the most successful programs in the state over the past few years, and he’s showing signs of big time upside with his versatility at his size. At 6’7” he’s long and very mobile, he can play inside-out as he’s able to catch and finish in the paint and he can handle in transition and shoot it from deep and he really shines defensively where he can guard pretty much any position on the floor with his length and mobility.

[player_tooltip player_id="798690" first="Matt" last="Nunez"] | 6’10” | Hargrave/Big Shots Venom

Nunez opened some eyes playing with Hargrave’s post graduate team this past season as he picked up offers from Ohio, Central Michigan and Navy throughout the season to go along with Wichita State and William & Mary from last year/summer. He’s always been a guy coaches like because of his size and touch, but his work ethic and improvement over the past year or so has really been what has stood out and makes him a key guy for coaches to watch this spring and summer. He’s transformed his body and become more mobile due to it, he’s a guy who can score out to 15 feet and over both shoulders and he’s a terrific passer out of the post as well.

[player_tooltip player_id="815584" first="Keyontae" last="Lewis"] | 6’9” | LC Bird/Team Loaded 804

A physical presence in the paint that has improved his body and his game over the past few years, Lewis will turn heads for coaches who know about him but haven’t seen him in a while with the way he looks and plays on the floor. He’s a hard working guy that will bang on the glass, set screens and clog the paint defensively, but he’s also a good finisher in the paint and has become more explosive around the rim. He holds D1 offers from Bryant and Norfolk State and D2 offers from Tusculum and Shaw, but there should be more coming his way when coaches get a chance to see him.

[player_tooltip player_id="815581" first="David" last="Solomon"] | 6’7” | Lake Braddock/Team Durant

Solomon has been on the radar of coaches since he was a freshman at Lake Braddock, but the lack of opportunities for him to be seen since then has slowed his recruitment and it should pick back up once they see him now. He’s a post player with a mix of size, strength and athleticism, so he runs the floor harder than you would expect and he’s able to play above the rim and make energy plays on both ends of the floor. He won’t be the best player on a very talented Durant team but he’ll be a steal for someone at some level in a few years.
