REGIONAL 21

Regional 2 has some talented players and teams that could advance deep into the tournament. Here is a preview of the Region and my predictions.

LOCATION

Springport

DATE

March 30 and April 1

KEY PLAYERS

Joe Olkowski (2021, F, Michigan Center)

He may or may not put up the biggest stat line in the regional, but Michigan Center won’t advance without him. Olkowski is the type of leader that other players will follow.

Gavin Parry (2021, PG, Bath)

Parry is a terrific point guard to have leading the troops deep in the playoffs. He doesn’t turn the ball over and can score from multiple levels. Probably most importantly, he’s a terrific perimeter defender.

[player_tooltip player_id="969530" first="Ayden" last="Rutan"] (2021, PG, Leslie)

Rutan is a tough on ball defender. He can pressure the ball and play lockdown defense. Rutan has the ability to put the ball on the floor and attack the rim.

[player_tooltip player_id="863966" first="Carson" last="Sanders"] (2022, SG, Hanover-Horton)

Sanders is a high quality player and an interesting prospect. Prep Hoops Michigan currently has him ranked as the #58 prospect in the class of 2022, but he has the ability to rise even higher. Sanders is a well rounded and versatile player with good positional size and strength.

THE GAMES AND PREDICTIONS

SEMIFINALS

Hanover-Horton vs. Michigan Center

Michigan Center has some warriors on their roster and will battle from tip to buzzer, but Hanover-Horton should prove to be too much.

Prediction: Hanover-Horton

Leslie vs. Bath

I love the point guard matchup in this one with Leslie’s Rutan squaring up against Bath’s Parry. I think Rutan may have a little more depth around him.

Prediction: Leslie

REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Hanover-Horton vs. Leslie

This would be a matchup between 2 very deserving teams that have played really solid basketball all season long. I think Hanover-Horton pulls away toward the end of a hard fought game. I think Hanover-Horton is eventually staring down a quarterfinal showdown with Ypsilanti Arbor Prep.

Prediction: Hanover-Horton
