<p>Either way, the Southern Connecticut Championship was headed to West Haven, Connecticut. West Haven HS and Notre Dame-West Haven squared off at the Floyd Little Athletic Field House in New Haven, CT to determine a champion. After a first half with various lead changes, West Haven HS was able to pull away in the second half. The final score was 69-49. Head Coach Ty Sullivan was able to land the school’s first-ever SCC Championship in his third season at the helm. <br />

<strong>MVP </strong><br />
<strong>Kairon Hooks ’21</strong> who played for Notre Dame in the past had reason to play with extra energy and motivation. The 6’4" senior forward controlled the glass and contributed on both ends of the court. He capped off his performance with an explosive and one dunk coming off the baseline. He finished with 14 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 assists<br />
<br />
[player_tooltip player_id="1081761" first="Eli" last="Blackwell"] <strong>’21</strong> is an extension of the coach on the floor. He controls the game with floor presence, awareness, and playmaking ability. Offensively he was able to beat defenders with the pass or as a scoring threat. The 1000 point scorer consistently made the right plays while his defensive prowess, along with his backcourt team, [player_tooltip player_id="1081741" first="Malcolm" last="Duncanson"], was unmatched. Eli contributed 16 points, 5 assists, and 2 rebounds.<br />
<br />
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1081741" first="Malcolm" last="Duncanson"] ’21</strong> wasn’t able to get it going offensively but made his presence felt in other ways. The All-State performer contributed 6 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Malcolm and his backcourt teammate revved up their defensive intensity in the second half making it impossible for the opponent to score any easy buckets.<br />
<br />
<strong>Javaun Calhoun ’22</strong> paint presence and effort were key for the win. Calhoun did all the dirty work for the program. He was able to protect the rim with five blocks, but also contributed three steals and three rebounds. His defensive effort on [player_tooltip player_id="1081764" first="Ben" last="Carroll"], one of the area’s best prospects, also helped secure the championship.<br />
