The Sunflower League has produced a bunch of talent over the years and this season was no different. The 2021 class put on a show this year and garnered a bunch of All League nods, so today we will look at some of the notable unsigned seniors who made All League for the Sunflower League.

[player_tooltip player_id="1134423" first="Erik" last="Smith"], 6’ Guard, Shawnee Mission South

1st Team All Sunflower

Analysis: Smith’s improvement from last season to this one is meteoric, going from not even making any of the teams in prior years to being a 1st team selection. The South guard helped spearhead a talented back court and showed off his savvy with the ball, mid range shooting ability, and basketball IQ in controlling basketball games. He hit a ton of big shots throughout the year for the Raiders highlighted by a game winning pull up jumper in a win. He can get to the foul line, has a soft mid range and floater game off the dribble, I like his drive and kick ability, and he is a gamer in crunch time.

[player_tooltip player_id="946244" first="Luke" last="Williams"], 6’ Guard, Olathe South (Pictured)

1st Team All Sunflower

Analysis: Williams has been a tremendous guard all season, dictating tempo, attacking the glass, and running the show for a dangerous Olathe South team this season. He transitions quickly in his dribble moves into attack mode and can get guys on his hip in a blur, leading guys to foul him or him getting to the rim. Williams also has a great floater game, which will be a big weapon for him at the next level. He has a quiet demeanor on the court but he always plays really poised, which is what you need from your lead guard. He averaged 14.4 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists per game.

[player_tooltip player_id="946211" first="Tommy" last="Faseru"], 6’3 Guard, Olathe West

3rd Team All Sunflower

Analysis: A long armed athletic guard, Faseru is gifted at getting to the rim. Explosive off the dribble both in the half court and in transition and has a nice change of pace with the ball. Teams sagged off him this year and he has shown growth in his jumper, especially when using rhythm bounces off the dribble to get into his shot, but his money is getting himself into that lane and into his defenders body to draw contact and finish strong. He averaged 8.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2 assists per game.

[player_tooltip player_id="889464" first="Will" last="Townsend"], 6’8 Forward, Shawnee Mission East

1st Team All Sunflower

Analysis: Whoever gets Townsend at the next level is getting an absolute stud at either the 4 or 5 spot, point blank. The size, athleticism, motor, and skill combination is tremendous, and his willingness to be a great teammate shines as well. He has back to basket moves, a face up game, and a solid touch on his jump shot, making him a multi faceted forward. Townsend is a good post defender as well and if put in switch situations can sit and guard some ball handlers as well. I have heard the interest in schools is growing for him, and rightfully so, he averaged 14 points,7 rebounds, 3 asissts, and over a block per game.

[player_tooltip player_id="730648" first="Quinten" last="Mason"], 5’10 Guard, Olathe North

2nd Team All Sunflower

Analysis: Really tough nosed guard, and has a stocky frame to him, who plays extremely tough but also has a smoothness to his game. He has the ability to rock with the ball in his hands and knock down perimeter shots and is a good spot up shooter as well. Mason has good hands and is a heady defender and translates that into getting steals and getting out on the break, which is another area he excels in, the transition game.

[player_tooltip player_id="889472" first="Preston" last="Reynolds"], 6’4 Guard, Shawnee Mission East

1st Team All Sunflower

Analysis: If there was a Mr. Versatile Award for the league, I would give it to Reynolds, as he is the epitome of a stat sheet stuffer aka do it all player. He averaged 12.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game this season which showcases his floor scoping ability, scoring from all 3 levels of the floor, being physical and rebounding on both ends, and just having the skill set to contribute to his team in a variety of ways. He has been recently announcing that the college interest is growing as well, which is well deserved after a really strong senior campaign.
