Thanks to a barrage of threes, Garnet Valley blitzed UD, 69-41. Still, the game boasted a slew of intriguing college prospects who are worth discussing.

Garnet Valley:

The Garnet Valley boys’ basketball team (#4 seed) won the Central League this season and received a 1st Round bye in the District 1-6A tournament. After crushing Upper Dublin, they will now take on #5 seed Perkiomen Valley in the quarterfinals this Friday.

The GV roster boasts a number of college prospects:

Max Koehler – 5’10’’/ Sophomore / Combo Guard: Koehler is a prospect flying under the radar for this Garnet Valley starting five that is loaded with talent. Koehler is change of speed guard who sets up his excellent 3-point shot by initially scoring at the rim with either hand. He has also as mastered the art of attacking the basket, stopping on dime and then kissing a short range jumper of the glass for a bucket. Additionally Koehler displayed a high basketball IQ. He is the 4th option in this GV offense so last night he only put 4 points in the book, but this is a prospect who be future star for Garnet Valley. Koehler is currently UNSIGNED.

Justin Langan – 6’2’’/ Senior / Small Forward: Of late Langan has put on a 3-point shooting display for Garnet Valley and his hot shooting continued last night. He scored 9 points in the 1st quarter; 17 overall and splashed home 3 threes in the Jaguars runaway win. Langan is well known for his hitting spot up threes, but against Upper Dublin he showed the ability to score in the mid-range and move without the ball. Langan is currently UNSIGNED.

Gannon McKee – 6’3” / Senior / Wing: A long athlete with hops, McKee is a great running mate for Schaller who is best known for his ability to rains in threes of the spot up variety. Last night he continued to fill that role successfully by draining 2 threes and posting 10 points overall. He owns a quick trigger, so if a defender loses McKee for even a second, his watery jumper is up and most likely in. McKee also appears to own a high basketball IQ. Over his last 3 contests McKee is averaging 12.6 points and 2.5 made threes per game. McKee is currently UNSIGNED.

[player_tooltip player_id="990991" first="Carl" last="Schaller"] – 5’10” / Senior / Combo Guard: A well rounded player who can run at either guard spot, Schaller is the reigning Central League MVP. I have watched him play numerous times this season and have yet to find a defense that can stop him from getting buckets. He is an excellent 3-point shooter who can also score by blowing past defenders for lay-ins. The one thing that surprises you about Schaller is his eye popping vertical leap. For a player who is clearly under 6-feet tall he frequently scores over opponents and garbs rebounds against much taller players. Even though he was on the bench during the final minutes of this blow out win, Schaller finished with 19 points. Committed to Gettysburg.

Upper Dublin:

The Upper Dublin boys basketball team (#20 seed) stunned #13 seed Haverford 48-46 in the 1st round of District 1-6A play last Saturday to set up this 2nd Round game vs Garnet Valley.

The UD roster boasts a couple of college prospects:

Colin O’Sullivan – 6’0 / Sophomore / Combo Guard: O’Sullivan posted 24 points in the 1st round of the District 1-6A Tournament vs. Haverford, so I was looking forward to seeing this 2023 prospect play last night. Unfortunately he was ice cold vs Garnet Valley and tallied only 2 points. Still, I liked a lot of what I saw from O’Sullivan. His shooting mechanics are excellent and this season he has proven he can hit from deep so last night was likely just a bad night at the office. In addition to being a good shooter, O’Sullivan is super athletic (He is also the starting QB on the UD football team and is getting serious attention from college recruiters.) and owns the handles to run the point guard spot at a high level. O’Sullivan is currently UNSIGNED.

[player_tooltip player_id="990977" first="Drew" last="Stover"] – 6’7” / Senior / Upper Dublin / Power Forward: With his size (250 lbs.) and ability to score on the blocks with either hand, Stover (25 ppg. this season & 1,000 point scorer) is able to dominate the interior in just about any high school basketball game. That’s exactly what he did last night. Stover recorded 27 points and I can’t recall him taking a single shot outside the paint. He bullied Garnet Valley defenders on the blocks and converted on numerous second chance opportunities. Stover has a good feel for playing in the post and nice touch on his shots. What surprised me is that Stover is athletic and nimble for a kid with his size. Stover scored 16 points in 1st round vs Haverford and earlier this season he lit up North Penn for 43 points. Committed to Millersville University.
