Choctawhatchee v. Leesburg, Class 5A Semifinals, 59-58 Choctaw wins
Tampa Jesuit v. Pembroke Pines Charter, Class 5A Semifinals, 57-63 (OT)
Here are the backcourt standouts for the day:
Ryan Weir Ryan Weir 5'11" | SG Jesuit | 2021 State FL , Tampa Jesuit, 6’, 2021
Weir put on a show from distance in the nail biter against Pembroke Pines. The senior guard knocked down 4 threes on 10 attempts on the path to 16 points for the Tigers. He also distributed the ball well and was able to break the press that Pembroke set up for them. Weir definitely went out with a bang, leading a team that was physically outmatched to a very competitive game against a very good Pembroke Pines team. Weir will continue his basketball career with Aquinas College is Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Jamil Bowles Jamil Bowles 6'5" | CG Choctaw | 2021 State FL , Choctawhatchee, 6’5″, 2021
Bowles got off to a slow start off the bench for the Indians, but was much more effective down the stretch. The JUCO commit demonstrated his offensive prowess, using his length down the stretch to get floaters over bigger defenders. He had some massive buckets down the stretch and showed his clutch gene to close out a competitive game against Leesburg. Bowles will be a great jolt of energy against a super athletic Pembroke Pines team on Friday.
Javaris Young, Choctawhatchee, 6’3″, 2021
Young was getting buckets in all kinds of ways against a tough as nails Leesburg team. Young hit the only 3 he took and was slashing to the basket to get easy buckets and go to the line for Choctaw. He finished with 13 points and will be someone to watch for as they match up with Pembroke Pines Charter on Friday.
Andre Carter Jr Andre Carter Jr 6'3" | CG Leesburg | 2022 State FL , Leesburg, 6’3″, 2022
Jesus, Carter is as pure of a shooter as they come. He’s an animal from distance, pulling up from Curry range on the NBA line and hitting it with consistency. He had 17 points for Leesburg, shooting 42% from distance. He was mostly a one-trick pony for the Yellow Jackets, but is was a trick that was super effective. He’s got a good frame and physical build for a guard, so with another season to grow, Carter could become a shoot-first full hybrid guard that will be deadly to defenses all over Florida.
