Round 2 of the NCHSAA State Playoffs was filled with upsets, big time stat sheet performances and plenty of exciting plays. Who were some of the players that stood out and put together sensational showings? Let’s take a look !

Apex Friendship got a big win to advance to the next round and a huge part of their success was the play of Senior Guard Kenny Nolan. He gives max effort on both ends of the floor but especially on the defensive side of the ball, making things difficult for opponents and forcing them into some difficult shots.

RJ Reynolds Unsigned Senior Guard Tyreik Leach has been on a mission since they playoffs started and Thursday night he led his squad to a win over #5 seed Page HS. Leak went for 28 Points, scoring the ball in multiple ways and bringing the intensity on both ends of the court that you love to see.

North Davidson HS & Elon Football signee Guard [player_tooltip player_id="574478" first="Jamarien" last="Dalton"] has put together video game type numbers all season long and in his final game of his high school career he dropped 40 Points in a loss to North Lincoln. He was called on to take on a large role this year and he has not disappointed, not only with his scoring but also with his facilitating.

Reidsville HS & NC State signee [player_tooltip player_id="838018" first="Breon" last="Pass"] had one of his better performance as of late in their win, dropping 35 Points & snatching down 7 Rebounds. The attribute that sets him apart from other guards is his toughness and desire to win. He doesn’t back down from a challenge and his time on the football field has only helped him on the court.

It’s seems like the state playoffs is where Pinecrest HS Senior Guard [player_tooltip player_id="838055" first="Bradlee" last="Haskell"] plays his best basketball. Haskell followed an outstanding showing in the first round with an even better performance in the 2nd round against Rolesville. Haskell went on a scoring tear with 20 Points in the 2nd half and finished with a game high of 30 points on the night.

East Carteret pulled off an upset over #1 seed Granville Central to advance to the next round led by Unsigned Senior Wing [player_tooltip player_id="838056" first="Bennie" last="Brooks"] who put together one of the best games of his career, scoring a game high of 42 Points. Brooks has decent size for a college SG at about 6’4 and would be a nice late pickup for a school that needs a scorer and rebounder.

During 9 Dime Fall League we named Lumberton HS Forward Matt Locklear “Mr. Double/Double” due to his high rate of scoring and rebounding. On Thursday night he showcased why he earned his nickname once again with 35 Points & 13 Rebounds in a win over #1 Ranked Laney HS. What is even more impressive is that he’s doing all of this at only about 6’2 playing the Power Forward position in the 4A division.

Terry Sanford HS dominated East Wake in the 2nd Round and their Star Junior Forward [player_tooltip player_id="787668" first="Davis" last="Molnar"] was his usual self. Molnar went for 23 Points, 12 Rebounds & 7 Assist in the win, which is close to his season average of a triple double per game. Schools at the MM level should be giving him a call and LM programs should already be offering as he would be a steal at that level.
