Three Up
Sioux Falls O’Gorman. The Knights have soared up the state rankings recently led by a six game winning streak. And it’s not like they have been knocking off bums, the Knights handed top ranked Washington their first loss of the season plus beat Mitchell and St. Thomas More recently. One of the hottest threats in the class right now is 6-foot-6 Eddie Meylor Eddie Meylor 6'6" | PF SF O'Gorman | 2021 State SD . His performance against Washington was one of the best of the season. Kade Moffitt Kade Moffitt 6'3" | SG SF O'Gorman | 2021 State SD is coming off of a 21 point game in the win over Lincoln. Tonight O’Gorman looks to go 2-0 on the year against a team (Washington) that nobody else has beaten.
Flandreau. The Fliers are hitting their grove at the right time. After a 10-2 start Flandreau lost four of five and there were some bad losses in that stretch. However, recent wins over Clark/Willow Lake, Baltic, Parker, and most importantly the recent 56-55 win knocking off Sioux Falls Christian has Flandreau soaring into the post-season. All State caliber forward Tash Lunday Tash Lunday 6'5" | PF Flandreau | 2022 State SD and his 22 points and 11 rebounds a game has found a strong 1-2 scoring punch partner in 6-foto-4 junior Chase LeBrun Chase LeBrun 6'5" | SG Flandreau | 2022 State SD . Chase is a 15 point, 6 rebound a game guy that even more importantly is a 40 plus percent three point shooter. Throw in the senior backcourt player of Taryn Ukestine Taryn Ukestine 6'1" | SG Flandreau | 2021 State SD and Alex Anderson and this is a tough out come playoff time.
Lyman. The Raiders were crushed by Hanson on January 23rd. It was rough day but they’ve turned things around winning ten games in a row. They beat Gregory and Wall stepping past average teams and then recently knocked off Bridgewater-Emery, ranked Chamberlain, and Kadoka Area! The next test is tomorrow when Lyman faces White River. Declan Cleveland is the tough guy on this squad handling the scoring and rebounding duties while Sam and Stockton, the McClanhans, make for a really tough wing pair.
Three Down
Mitchell. The Kernels lean heavily on their Canden Hinker/ Zane Alm Zane Alm 6'11" | C Mitchell | 2021 State SD frontcourt and lately teams are gameplanning with multiples on one or the other, and in some games they’ve sent extra attention at both. Mitchell is on a three game losing streak, plus defeats in four of their last five games. The competition has certainly been stiff (losses to the top four ranked teams in state) but a team with big dreams has to keep find a way.
Sioux Falls Christian. At one point there was talk that maybe SFC should be considered the top squad in Class A. All of a sudden they are now 14-5 having loss three of their last four. The overtime games (a loss to Western Christian, win over Harrisburg) seemed to take a bit of the Chargers. Since those games SFC has lost to Sioux Valley by ten and Flandreau this week by a point. The Chargers need a good performances against Tri Valley tomorrow.
Five Winless. There are five teams that are currently winless and that is Bison (0-13), Freeman (0-20), Iroquois/Dolan (0-19), Colman-Egan (0-20), and Wilmot (0-17). None of the teams are in the same section. Looking at potential playoff brackets it would be tough to see any of these teams winning in the playoffs either.
