As of the time of this writing, the following teams have not entered stats into VarsityBound: Panorama, Roland-Story, Anamosa, Spirit Lake, Albia, West Burlington, Pekin, PCM, Denver.

These top performers will solely come from the teams that have entered stats as of 11:15 am on February 25.

Carter Harmsen, Mid-Prairie

The 6-4 junior is a talented, playmaking wing who had a huge game against Camanche, going off for 32 points on 11-18 shooting (9-14 FT). He also chipped in 6 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 assists, and a block. He’s a force who is nearly impossible to stop when he’s playing downhill, and he was great in the Golden Hawks last game of the season.

[player_tooltip player_id="682268" first="Zach" last="Erwin"], Camanche

Erwin was his usual stat-sheet stuffing self in the Indians’ win, scoring 19 points with 6 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 blocks, and a steal. He’s an efficient scorer who can get the job done at all three levels, but perhaps his most notable traits are his playmaking and defensive versatility.

[player_tooltip player_id="962645" first="Thomas" last="Schwartz"], Treynor

Schwartz’s teammates [player_tooltip player_id="964920" first="Sid" last="Schaaf"] and Tim Zimmerman had huge scoring games in the Cardinals huge win over AHSTW, but it was Schwartz who was putting those guys in positions to score. The 6-0 junior guard dished out 15 assists in the win to go with 11 points and 4 steals. He was in complete control of the game on the offensive end, pacing an attack that did whatever they wanted against the Vikings.

Tyler Schmitt, East Sac County

Schmitt, a 6-3 forward, will take over as East Sac’s primary scorer next year, and he had a big game in their loss to OABCIG, going for 15 points and 8 rebounds on 7-12 shooting. Capable of scoring inside and out, the future looks bright for Schmitt.

[player_tooltip player_id="784980" first="Chris" last="Schreck"], Van Meter

A 5-10 lead guard, Schreck makes a major difference on both ends of the floor with his quickness and talent. He led the Bulldogs with 20 points on 8-15 shooting (4-8 3P) in their win over Panorama.

Clark Fiala, Van Meter

The 6-4 big man has made a major impact this year for Van Meter after being a role player as a sophomore. He had 15 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks in their win over Panorama.

[player_tooltip player_id="751418" first="Jayden" last="Mackie"], Aplington-Parkersburg

The future Upper Iowa lead guard was incredibly efficient in the Falcons win over Forest City, scoring 15 points on 7-8 shooting with 5 rebounds and 3 assists. He’s a quick, athletic lead guard who makes an impact on both ends of the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id="962633" first="Christian" last="Haugstad"], Aplington-Parkersburg

The 6-7 junior big man came off the bench to provide 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Falcons. A big man who runs the floor extremely well, he does a great job establishing early position and using that early position to get easy buckets.

[player_tooltip player_id="962616" first="Ty" last="Van Essen"], Western Christian

Western Christian put on an offensive clinic in their win over Rock Valley, shooting 61% from the floor, and Van Essen led the way, scoring 23 points with 13 rebounds on 8-15 shooting (2-2 3P). The 6-4 combo forward has really emerged as a tough matchup with his ability to score inside and out at a highly-efficient clip.

Eli Van Essen, Western Christian

The 5-11 guard was outstanding for the Wolfpack, scoring 15 points on 5-5 shooting, including making all 4 of his 3-point attempts. The lone downside of his game was 7 turnovers, but they certainly didn’t come back to bite the Pack, who won by 15.

[player_tooltip player_id="682293" first="Drake" last="Wemark"], New Hampton

Wemark, a 6-2 combo forward, has established himself as one of the more talented players in Iowa’s 2022 class. He missed a good chunk of time this year to injury, but made a major impact on the game in the Chickasaws’ loss to Denver, scoring a team-high 19 points with 10 rebounds and 7 assists.

Eric Mulder, Pella Christian

The 6-8 big man was unstoppable in the Eagles loss to Albia, going for 15 points (7-11 FG), 16 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 4 steals. A talented big with good hands that the offense can run through, Mulder will be the focal point for a PC team that will be one of the best in 2A next year.

[player_tooltip player_id="962669" first="Adam" last="Witty"], Des Moines Christian

A 6-2 wing, Witty was highly-efficient in the Lions blowout win over PCM, finishing with 20 points on 7-9 shooting. He knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and got to the free-throw line, going 4-5 from the stripe. That type of scoring versatility is extremely valuable for a team that can struggle to score at times.

[player_tooltip player_id="962672" first="Bryson" last="Van Grootheest"], Rock Valley

The Rockets lost to a very good Western Christian team, but they might open next season #1 in 2A, in large part because of Van Grootheest. A skilled scoring guard, he finished with 22 points on 10-20 shooting, plus 4 assists. He has the ability to score from all three levels and is a high IQ player.

Landyn Van Kekerix, Rock Valley

The other piece of the Rockets dynamic junior tandem, Van Kekerix had 21 points on 10-17 shooting, with 6 rebounds and 2 steals. The 5-11 guard does almost all of his damage inside the arc, which is a rarity nowadays.

[player_tooltip player_id="962665" first="Blake" last="Janssen"], Iowa Falls-Alden

The 6-0 guard showed his ability to stuff the stat sheet in the Cadets win over Dike-New Hartford, finishing with 10 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 assists. He's a solid playmaking guard who thrives on getting others involved.

[player_tooltip player_id="682290" first="Tanner" last="Te Slaa"], Boyden-Hull

The talented 6-4 wing holds a handful of Division I offers, and he showed why mid-major programs are all over him with his ability to dominate the game on both ends of the floor. He finished with 23 points on 8-14 shooting, 13 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. A versatile scorer, his frame has really started to fill out, and he's using it to bully his way into the paint at will.

Bryan Zylstra, Boyden-Hull

A 6-2 combo forward, Zylstra had a remarkably efficient game in the Comets win, scoring 16 points on 4-5 shooting (3-4 3P, 5-6 FT) with 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal. An active player who moves well off the ball, his ability to stretch the floor is key for the Comets.
