Prep Hoops was able to take in a few basketball games this past Monday on President’s Day. First we started off driving down to Mount Pleasant roughly 60 miles away to take in Goose Creek HS vs Wando at the Chop House. The Chop House generally in years past had a great home court advantage with a very loud student section. During Covid-19 those times have changed a lot. The 12:30 P.M. afternoon start made things a bit different with roughly maybe 75 people in the gym.

The region matchup wasn’t much of a game for the unbeaten Goose Creek HS Gators who cruised to a easy victory over the Warriors. The win moved the Gators to (11-0) on the season. [player_tooltip player_id="1133746" first="Justin" last="Britt"] led the way with 13 points, [player_tooltip player_id="979132" first="Demetri" last="Simmons"] added 11 points, [player_tooltip player_id="840206" first="Yaturi" last="Bolton"] 10 points and [player_tooltip player_id="1133745" first="Tykelvien" last="Thompson"] added 9 points in the lopsided win.

Britt a sophomore was able to slash to the cup or knockdown a open three pointer. Britt was able to sacrifice his body while taking a charge for the Gators.

Simmons a standout running back on the gridiron for the Gators showed great body control going to the basket with his ability to finish on contract. Simmons dropped a few mid-range jumpers off the bounce and even was able to go behind the three point line and knockdown some shots.

Bolton played on the ball more than I had ever seen him play before by running the point guard position for the Gators. Bolton a long and rangy guard was able to connect on a few elbow jumpers while being the primary ball-handler here today for Head Coach Blake Hall.

Converse College signee [player_tooltip player_id="979005" first="Xavion" last="Bennett"] was in uniform today but DNP in the game.

The host Warriors had a long afternoon to say the least today. David Holmes a senior post player was a new name for me today. Holmes didn’t play as junior and came back out this season for the Warriors. Holmes moves well around the floor and shows to have really good hands in the post.
