Week 10 Scouting Notes: Player Evaluations

Uhing led the Antlers to a convincing win over a ranked Class B Waverly team, scoring 17 points and finishing with a +13 point differential when on the floor. I have seen him a couple times throughout the year, and each time it seems as if he matures and grows as a scorer and passer. A hot stretch of three consecutive made three-pointers in the second quarter fueled Elkhorn and injected life into an otherwise sloppy game. His defense is the most underrated part of his game as his length and size help him at the top of Elkhorn’s 1-3-1 zone. </p> <p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Norris</span></p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="971732" first="Trey" last="Deveaux"]</strong></p> <p>Deveaux, an uncommitted senior, had a dominant performance this past Friday against a rising Elkhorn North squad recording 24 points and nine rebounds. Against a much smaller lineup, he feasted in the paint controlling down low and providing energy for a talented Titan team. Standing at 6-foot-6, he provides height and size, with a crazy speed burst thanks to his days of playing tight end for Norris. He averages 17.7 points per game to go along with around eight rebounds against some stiff Class B competition this season. With 12 of his 24 coming in the first quarter, he has that explosive burst and drive you want in a player. Two highlight reel dunks and the leadership you want in an upperclassmen, he really is the total package.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Grand Island Northwest</span></p> <p><strong>Jed Walford</strong></p> <p>In the first session of the games at the Heartland Hoops classic, Walford impressed with his lights out shooting towards the end of the contest. Although the effort was not enough to secure the win, it caught my eye and made me marvel at his shooting ability, finishing 6-12 from beyond the arc. At one point, Walford hit back-to-back-to-back triples keeping the Vikings in the game towards the back end. This isn’t the first time his shooting has been on display this season, as he leads GINW in scoring this year as a senior. Walford can flat out score in bunches, making him an interesting prospect in the mix of a very strong final campiagn.</p>
