The WIAA state playoffs will tip-off next week. Prep Hoops Wisconsin breaks down the race in Division 1 Sectional 4...

THE FAVORITE

Wauwatosa East (17-3)
[caption id="attachment_1103443" align="alignright" width="300"] [player_tooltip player_id="804904" first="Brian" last="Parzych"][/caption]
One of the most improved teams in the state, Tosa East won the loaded Greater Metro Conference by the three games. Featuring a balanced lineup loaded with college talent, the Red Raiders have the roster and experience to take the gold ball behind Northern Michigan commit [player_tooltip player_id="804904" first="Brian" last="Parzych"], [player_tooltip player_id="963676" first="Alex" last="Singleton"], [player_tooltip player_id="804959" first="Jay" last="Hinson"] Jr., and [player_tooltip player_id="761404" first="Leon" last="Bond"].

TOP CONTENDERS

Brookfield East (19-4)

The Spartans have managed to continue rolling despite the loss of their freshman star [player_tooltip player_id="1089678" first="Tayshawn" last="Bridges"]. Washington (St. Louis) commit [player_tooltip player_id="879993" first="Hayden" last="Doyle"] looks to end his outstanding career with a bang. If breakout junior [player_tooltip player_id="1085205" first="Dan" last="Gherezgher"] and sophomore guard Matt Schmainda consistently perform, there’s no reason why East can’t win it all with the way this group can defend.

Brookfield Central (17-5)

The preseason No. 1 team in Division 1 hasn’t lived up to expectations, but if there’s anything we know about Central, they tend to peak in February. The Lancers have arguably the best trio in the state in Texas commit [player_tooltip player_id="804893" first="David" last="Joplin"], St. Thomas commit [player_tooltip player_id="879980" first="Ben" last="Nau"], and [player_tooltip player_id="801148" first="Andrew" last="Rohde"]. If Central can find some depth and playmaking from their supporting cast, this team is very dangerous.

DARK HORSE

Franklin (18-5)
[caption id="attachment_1107745" align="alignright" width="300"] [player_tooltip player_id="804908" first="Carter" last="Capstran"][/caption]
Senior forward [player_tooltip player_id="804908" first="Carter" last="Capstran"] leads a deep and experienced squad. Franklin has played a loaded schedule and come away with wins over Racine Case, Whitnall, Wauwatosa East, Waunakee, and Westosha Central.

Westosha Central (15-5)

The Falcons are probably another year away from really competing for a gold ball, but they have some pieces to potentially arrive early. Junior guard [player_tooltip player_id="727964" first="Jack" last="Rose"] is a lethal scorer for the Southern Lakes Conference champs who can carry a team deep into the playoffs.

Burlington (16-6)

This team may have finished third in the Southern Lakes Conference, but you have to respect some of the wins under Burlington’s belt. The Red Devils have wins over SJNA and Westosha Central this season.

PREDICTIONS

Sectional Semifinals

Wauwatosa East over Franklin

Muskego over Kenosha Bradford

Sectional Final

Wauwatosa East over Muskego

PLAYERS TO WATCH

[player_tooltip player_id="994376" first="Luke" last="Bara"] - Muskego

One of the fastest rising seniors in the state, Bara has jumped into the top 50 this season. Bara is putting up nearly 25 points per game this
[caption id="attachment_1085203" align="alignright" width="300"] [player_tooltip player_id="994376" first="Luke" last="Bara"][/caption]
season. An explosive , high volume bucket getter who can also handle the point duties, Bara has some of the best on-ball skills in his class, able to control a game as a scorer and facilitator.

[player_tooltip player_id="761404" first="Leon" last="Bond"] - Wauwatosa East

A top three junior in the state, Bond averages in double figures for a very balanced Red Raider squad. An explosive athlete who makes game changing plays and is expanding his half court skill set by the day, Bond holds scholarship offers from UW-Milwaukee, Western Illinois, and Eastern Michigan.

[player_tooltip player_id="804908" first="Carter" last="Capstran"] - Franklin

On old school post prospect, Capstran has a deep set of tools on the block. Not going to wow anybody with size or athleticism, but instead beats people with footwork and IQ. The sweet-shooting big man is averaging 17 points and eight rebounds per game for the Sabers this season.

[player_tooltip player_id="879993" first="Hayden" last="Doyle"] - Brookfield East

Doyle is averaging 26 points, seven rebounds, and four assists per game. A two-way guard that’s an efficient scorer and tenacious defender, Doyle is on his way to Washington University in St. Louis next season.

[player_tooltip player_id="981022" first="Jacob" last="Dunham"] - South Milwaukee

Get to know this name over the next two seasons. Dunham is going to be a handful for defenders. The sophomore guard is a 6-foot-5 scoring wing with prototypical size and skills on the ball. He’s averaging 17.5 points and 3.5 assists per game in 2020-21.

[player_tooltip player_id="1021573" first="Colin" last="Hardrick"] (Wauwatosa West)

Having a breakout sophomore season, Hardrick is averaging nearly 23 points per game as a sophomore. In instant offense type guard who can get downhill, shoot it off the bounce, and play uptempo, Hardrick is a walking bucket for Tosa West.

[player_tooltip player_id="865834" first="Amari" last="Jedkins"] - Racine Case

The junior forward is averaging 14.0 points per game for Case, who didn’t begin play until Jan. 27. A long, athletic forward oozing with upside, Jedkins holds a scholarship offer from Western Illinois.

[player_tooltip player_id="804893" first="David" last="Joplin"] - Brookfield Central
[caption id="attachment_1026006" align="alignright" width="300"] [player_tooltip player_id="804893" first="David" last="Joplin"][/caption]
The Texas commit is capping off an outstanding career by averaging 25.3 points and 10.8 rebounds per game as a senior. A 6-foot-6 combo forward who can create mismatch problems, Joplin features a deadly mid-range and face-up game.

[player_tooltip player_id="879980" first="Ben" last="Nau"] - Brookfield Central

The St. Thomas commit is averaging 16.5 points and five assists per game during his senior campaign. A sharpshooting guard that plays the game with a ton of passions, especially on the defensive end, Nau does whatever it takes to win.

[player_tooltip player_id="804904" first="Brian" last="Parzych"] - Wauwatosa East

Hard to find a player that means more to his team than Parzych. Don’t be fooled by a 14-point per game stat line. The Northern Michigan commit does it all, lays his body on the line, and exudes energy to his teammates over 36 minutes.

[player_tooltip player_id="727964" first="Jack" last="Rose"] - Westosha Central

SIUE, Toledo, and UW-Milwaukee have all offered Rose thus far. The junior guard is putting up better than 21 points per game. A 6-foot-5 two-guard who can score from all three levels, Rose is a three-year contributor for the Falcons with a ton of playoff experience.

[player_tooltip player_id="804920" first="Jasin" last="Sinani"] - Oak Creek

The UW-Milwaukee commit is making a good case for first-team All-State honors. With an ideal scoring package from a shooting guard, Sinani is averaging just shy of 21 points per game during his senior season.

[player_tooltip player_id="761411" first="Najashi" last="Tolefree"] - West Allis Central

A strong, versatile, and high-energy forward, Tolefree averages a double-double at 19.4 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. He can pretty much play and defend all five positions at this level.

Others to Watch: [player_tooltip player_id="945811" first="Kenny" last="Garth"] (Westosha Central), [player_tooltip player_id="935492" first="Kael" last="Stulo"] (Oak Creek), [player_tooltip player_id="1085205" first="Dan" last="Gherezgher"] (Brookfield East), [player_tooltip player_id="963676" first="Alex" last="Singleton"] (Wauwatosa East), [player_tooltip player_id="804959" first="Jay" last="Hinson"] (Wauwatosa East), [player_tooltip player_id="988976" first="Greyson" last="Pritzl"] (West Allis Central), [player_tooltip player_id="977504" first="Trey" last="Jenkins"] (Kenosha Bradford), [player_tooltip player_id="1029759" first="Jalen" last="Carlino"] (Kenosha Bradford), Will Starks (Kenosha Tremper), Trey Cardona (Kenosha Tremper), [player_tooltip player_id="865835" first="Terryon" last="Brumby"] (Racine Case), [player_tooltip player_id="865839" first="Darrien" last="Long"] (Racine Horlick), [player_tooltip player_id="764103" first="Ezra" last="Stargell"] (Kenosha Indian Trail), [player_tooltip player_id="1128637" first="Joey" last="Berezowitz"] (Burlington), [player_tooltip player_id="981004" first="Danny" last="Kniep"] (Burlington), Anthony Carter (Greenfield), [player_tooltip player_id="981005" first="Danny" last="Staskunas"] (West Allis Hale), [player_tooltip player_id="980996" first="Robert" last="Peeters"] (West Allis Hale), Riley Simonz (Marquette), Terrance McLendon (Wauwatosa West), [player_tooltip player_id="801148" first="Andrew" last="Rohde"] (Brookfield Central)
