Unsigned Senior Spotlight: Sean Carr

The year of 2021 continues and there is still no answer on if there will be a high school basketball season in Baltimore due to COVID restrictions. This has a ripple effect that expands much further than you can imagine, but one of the most important factors it impacts is the recruitment of the senior class. Sean Carr Sean Carr 6'6" | PF Mount St. Joseph | 2021 State MD , a 6-foot-6 forward out of Mount St. Joseph, was a prospect primed to turn heads as a senior after making clear improvements with his body and overall game throughout the spring and summer. 

"Not playing at all gave me a bunch of time to really work on my game believe it or not," Carr told Prep Hoops. "It was the first time really where I had that much time to really just grind and dedicate everything to my craft. Coach Jordon [Griffin] has been working with me everyday just working on my athleticism and getting stronger."

I was fortunate enough to see Carr in action recently and his athleticism has clearly improved since his junior season. He finishing well above the rim on drives and has developed into a legitimate shot-disruptor around the rim defensively. He’s also spent countless hours on his three-point shot to the point where he has become a threat in pick-and-pop scenarios.

"I feel ten times better than I was last year. I can shoot the three now, I’m more comfortable dribbling the ball and making plays. Overall just my flow on the court is just so much better. I can create shots for myself now and that’s been the biggest struggle for me throughout my high school career."

The Gaels have been the most consistent program in the MIAA/BCL when it comes to contending and winning championships. While they lost a few pieces from last year’s MIAA championship roster, this year’s team is on pace to put them in a similar position if there is some sort of high school season.

"We’re young this year, but we’re talented. I’m in the gym with most of our young guys almost every day. Everyone is grinding and getting better. Yes, we lost some good talent but that happens to us every year and every year we’re up there with the top dogs and usually are No. 1," Carr said.

Last season Carr filled the role of doing the dirty work. Crashing the offensive glass, diving on the floor for 50/50s and taking advantage of open shots around the rim thanks to the playmakers he played alongside. This season as a senior Carr will still impact in all of those ways, but the growth and confidence in his approach will have him upping his 6 points per game without a doubt.

"I think I’m going to be a big time scorer. Last year I was a around six points per game, but this year that will be around 15 I hope. I’ll need to score more, be vocal and help facilitate on offense and defense."

On the recruiting front, Carr has received calls from all levels, however there are a few schools that have put in the necessary time and have his attention.

"East Stroundburg and Catholic have been the two schools recruiting me the hardest. I’ve had some Division I programs reach out, but it’s nothing too serious at this point and I’d be hoping to change that when the season comes around."

Carr had this to say about his priority list when evaluating schools that recruit him:

"Academics definitely come first for me. I’m trying to set myself up for a better future and basketball is just a way that I can do that. I need for the school to have a good business program."
