Continue Reading2020 has been a challenging time for many of us. It is my hope that the ongoing basketball season has been a ray of distraction as we close out the year.
As we turn the page to 2021, I would like to highlight some players that have been on my radar. As always, please feel free to reach out on my socials about players across South Florida.
Ryan Davis Ryan Davis 6'4" | CG Martin County | 2022 State FL – Martin County
While my main focus is in South Florida, Davis is a player I would like to highlight up in the Treasure Coast. The 6-foot-4 combo guard dominated at the Kreul Classic after averaging 17 points, eight rebounds and two assists over three games. Moreover, Davis posted 19 points, 11 rebounds and six assists against powerhouse St. Andrew’s School. In his last loss as a sophomore, Davis scored 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds against Dillard. He is a big reason the Tigers sit undefeated this season at 11-0. Davis has a solid skillset of size and athleticism that make him a problem to defend. Only a junior, Davis has plenty of time to showcase his talent across the state.
Devin Hines Devin Hines 6'4" | CG St. Andrew's | 2021 State FL – St. Andrew’s School
The Scotts have a solid floor commander in Devin Hines Devin Hines 6'4" | CG St. Andrew's | 2021 State FL . The 6-foot-4 combo guard is averaging 11.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists and two steals per game. Personally, I like Hines at the point and his ability to rebound due to his length and athleticism. Against Martin County, Hines scored 18 points on 47 percent from the field and knocked down four 3-pointers. I was impressed with his play in the Sunshine State Preseason Classic against Westminster Academy and it seems to be continuing.
Chris Williams Chris Williams 6'5" | CG Avant Garde | 2021 State FL – Boyd Anderson
2021 Chris Williams Chris Williams 6'5" | CG Avant Garde | 2021 State FL is playing well for Boyd Anderson. The 6-foot-5 guard is averaging 13.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game for the Cobras. Against Miami Country Day, Williams scored 19 points on 9-of-15 from the field. He is a big reason Boyd Anderson is 3-1, with its only loss coming by nine points. Thanks to his frame, Williams has more offensive (14) than defensive (13) rebounds. 6-foot-7 forward Onwaja Thomas and 6-foot-3 guard Dave Dalge Dave Dalge 6'3" | CG Boyd Anderson | 2021 State FL are also averaging in double-figures for the Cobras. Boyd Anderson has a tough test against Coral Gables later today at the Sunshine State Winter Challenge.
Jose Amat Jose Amat 5'9" | CG Florida Christian | 2022 State FL III – Florida Christian
The Patriots have an excellent outside weapon in Jose Amat Jose Amat 5'9" | CG Florida Christian | 2022 State FL III. The 5-foot-9 point guard is shooting 59 percent from long range (20/34). Against 8-3 Windermere Prep, Amat III scored 19 points and knocked down five 3-pointers. Earlier this season, he scored another 19 points on 7-of-9 from the field against Columbus. In addition to Amat III, 2022 guard Nicholas Mate Nicholas Mate 5'10" | CG Florida Christian | 2022 State FL leads Florida Christian with 22 3-pointers. The Patriots are a fun team to watch and play at a fast pace, averaging just over 77 points per game.
Juwan Dawes – Dwyer
Along with Roderick Johnson Roderick Johnson 6'4" | PF Dwyer | 2021 State FL Jr., Dawes has Dwyer sitting pretty at 4-1 overall. The 6-foot-4 wing is averaging 13.2 points and 7.4 rebounds per game on 55 percent shooting from the field for the Panthers. Against 4-0 Forest Hill, Dawes scored 22 points on 10-of-14 from the field. Moreover, the junior has grabbed 15 of his 37 rebounds on the offensive end. The Panthers are one of the better teams across Palm Beach County so Dawes has plenty of opportunities to perform on a big stage.
