The Wildcats put the clamps on the Monarchs offense in the first half, not allowing Marysville to get very many open looks. Westerville South was forcing turnovers and rebounding the basketball to keep Marysville one and done on the offensive end. In the third quarter, Jack Christian Jack Christian 5'10" | PG Marysville | 2021 State OH got hot with three straight 3-pointers. The third of those triples put Christian over the 1,000 mark for his career, an impressive feat for the senior floor general. In the end, Marysville dug themselves too deep of a hole to get out of as the teams were pretty even in the second half. Here are the top performers from the contest.
Jaiden Guice Jaiden Guice 6'2" | CG Westerville South | 2021 State OH , 6’2 CG Westerville South 2021: Guice was showing off his impressive shot-making skills. Guice isn’t afraid to let it fly with a hand in his face and can knock down highly contested shots. Guice got up on the fast-break with a slam in the second half that helped cap off the Wildcats victory. Guice has a lot of division III interest and holds NAIA offers from Wilberforce and Shawnee State. If Guice continues to show the ability to make shots from the outside I expect his interest to continue to grow.
Drey Carter Drey Carter 6'8" | PF Westerville South | 2022 State OH , 6’7 SF Westerville South 2022: Carter is a name unfamiliar to many people but he has some pretty serious tools at his disposal. For starters, Carter is 6’7 and can flat out shoot it from 3-point range. With five 3-pointers that skill-set was clearly on display. During the first possession of the game Carter had a nice take to the basket and used a jump-stop to help avoid a charge. Besides that play he had a lot of trouble when attacking the basket as Carter needs to put on some weight. Carter is a prospect who is starting to show his potential and should start getting interest from D2 and low major programs.
Jack Christian Jack Christian 5'10" | PG Marysville | 2021 State OH , 5’10 PG Marysville 2021: Christian went over the 1,000 point total for his career in this contest. The senior point guard might actually be best used off-ball at the college level as Christian had a lot of success running off screens. It might be difficult for some D3 programs to convince themselves of a 5’10 off ball guard, but if you can make it work defensively I think Christians shot-making and secondary play-making would be valuable at the college level.
