Aplington-Parkersburg rallies late, survives Jesup
It seemed the offense would put this one away for the J-Hawks. They finished the night with a 70% effective field goal percentage. The AP Falcons? 53%. But it was second-chance points that ultimately doomed Jesup. They gave up 15 offensive rebounds to the Falcons, and they needed every single one of those extra possessions to shock Jesup and pull out a win, 84-83. Parker McHone and Jack Miller each scored 21 for Jesup. Four falcons scored in double figures, with Owen Thomas Owen Thomas 6'4" | SF Aplington-Parkersburg | 2021 State IA (22) the leader and Christian Haugstad Christian Haugstad 6'7" | C Aplington-Parkersburg | 2022 State IA (21) having a great impact off the bench. Aplington-Parkersburg trailed by 15 with just over three minutes to play, and in the final seconds, Thomas scored the game-winning layup. The result moves them to 5-0, but more importantly they proved to each other they could handle the pressure with their backs against the wall.
ADM earns one-point victory
Bondurant-Farrar hosted the ADM Tigers last night, and Colby Collison Colby Collison 6'4" | SF Bondurant-Farrar | 2023 State IA was the main attraction for most of the night. The sophomore was facilitating the offense for the Bluejays like a veteran. He efficiently scored 22, but his playmaking powered his team’s offense. The two sides were tied entering the fourth quarter, and ADM had one more point when the buzzer sounded. It was a tight, competitive contest, and last night it went ADM’s way. Sam Hlas and Tate Stine-Smith Tate Stine-Smith 6'0" | SF ADM | 2021 State IA both scored in double figures for the Tigers.
Kutcher erupts, but Mount Vernon falls
Keaton Kutcher Keaton Kutcher 6'2" | SG Mount Vernon | 2021 State IA proved once again he’s one of the deadliest 2-guards in the state. His final tally was 33 points, and he was active on defense, as was Jayden Meeker Jayden Meeker 5'11" | SG Mount Vernon | 2021 State IA . There was not enough shot-making from the rest of the team for Mount Vernon to overcome Clear Creek-Amana’s offensive attack. The ball was hopping with Christian Withrow Christian Withrow 6'1" | CG Clear Creek-Amana | 2021 State IA running the show for the Clippers. He showed impressive playmaking ability and had impact without the ball in his hands.
