New York Autumn Recruiting Update

<p>The season of autumn is not usually known for its basketball, as it’s when the grassroots season is winding down but school hasn’t started yet. This year, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been even less basketball. Even with that, however, kids have been busy. Today, we take a look at some updates for New York prospects as they managed to clear the path for their higher education.</p> <p><strong>Nick Spinoso | Canterbury School</strong></p> <p>After a great senior season at Kellenberg Memorial, Spinoso decided to venture North to The Canterbury School in Connecticut. While there might be even less basketball in Connecticut than in New York right now, Spinoso has wasted no time securing his path. The forward has proved he can be athletic to the rim and combine speed with efficiency in the paint and would be a great player as he committed to Division I Penn. Spinoso will take his talents to the Penn Quakers in the Ivy League under Donahue where one only figures continued success.</p> <p><strong>Nazir Williams | South Kent School</strong></p> <p>Nazir Williams has followed the same path as Spinoso over the past few months. Williams hails from Nyack but spent high school in St. Josephs in New Jersey. He decided to reclassify and attend South Kent School, also in Connecticut, and then receive an offer from Cornell to also take his talents to the Ivy League. Williams would be a great fit in the Ivy League, as his speed allows him to push the pase while he can also shoot from very deep with very large volume.</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1047661" first="Malachi" last="Smith"] | St. Rays</strong></p> <p>Out of Bronx, NYC, [player_tooltip player_id="1047661" first="Malachi" last="Smith"] has carved out his role not only in his school or league, but his community as well, with Smith being the latest in a long line of prospects from a school with a storied history such as St. Rays. Smith has been a steady presence at the point guard position and has been able to control the offense as well as dial up the tempo. Smith finally got rewarded this June, as he officially signed a letter of intent with the Dayton Flyers.</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="773441" first="Jaquan" last="Carlos"] | Thomas Jefferson</strong></p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="773441" first="Jaquan" last="Carlos"] might have gotten exactly what he wanted in the recruitment process, as he will be able to play at a high level and yet still be close to home. Carlos will be sticking it out in NYC, this time pursuing higher education at Hofstra University. Carlos has been another speedy point guard capable of initiating, facilating, and completing fastbreakes, while he can add another wrinkle with a deadly jumper.</p> <p><strong>Payton Shumpert | Woodstock</strong></p> <p>Payton Shumpert is just the latest to venture to nationwide baskketball stronghold Woodstock up in Connecticut, and his time in Woodstock with his coaches seem to have already helped his stock. The wing/forward who has a quick trigger as well as a great cut to the basket will be making his way back to his home in New York as he takes his talents to Stony Brook.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
