victory on Friday night.
There were a few players from both squads that played a lead role in making this game such an entertaining one.
2022 Kaden Cooper Kaden Cooper 6'4" | SG Ada | 2022 OK (Ada): 25 points.
Cooper was the most talented player on the court and it wasn’t even close. He still has virtually two seasons to polish his game further, but he’s easily one of the most athletic players in the state. He has a great handle on the ball, is quick enough to slice through defenders, and explosive enough to finish around the rim. His body control is very advanced for a player his age.
2022 Tanner Morris Tanner Morris 6'1" | SG Shawnee | 2022 State OK (Shawnee): 22 points.
If you look up “pure shooter” in the dictionary, you’ll see Morris’ name as the definition. He’s an elite shooter with the ability to hit shots off the dribble and catch-and-shoot. That’s not what separates him from the state’s other elite shooters. His hustle and his defensive awareness makes him a college coach’s dream of a “3-and-D” type of player, which is extremely unusual for high school.
Morris has two more seasons left, just like Cooper, and plenty of time to sharpen his skills
2023 Wyatt Brown (Ada): 13 points.
Ada’s Wyatt Brown is the perfect No. 2 to Cooper and he’s just a sophomore. His court awareness is his best attribute and he seemingly always knows where to be on the court. Whenever Cooper would get tied up with defenders, Brown was the open man under the basket. In a few situations, Cooper was used as the decoy and Brown would capitalize off that.
2022 Jaylon Orange Jaylon Orange 5'10" | PG Shawnee | 2022 State OK (Shawnee): 15 points.
Orange isn’t the most athletic, he’s not the tallest, and he’s not the most gifted player on the court, or even on Shawnee’s team but he has the biggest impact by far. He’s the leader of this team, always vocal, and hits big shots when it matters most. He was Shawnee’s second-leading scorer behind Morris.
Expect all of the above names listed to play a big role in their team’s success this year, as both Ada and Shawnee will be expected to compete for a State Title.
