Getting to know 2021 Anouar Mellouk

During a year when prospects have been dealt a bad hand due to the pandemic, game tape has been utilized more than ever for evaluation and exposure purposes. Anouar Mellouk Anouar Mellouk 6'7" | SF Fork Union | 2021 State VA , a class of 2021 forward playing for the Postgrad team at Fork Union, is one prospect who has helped himself in that realm. He recently scored 24 points, shooting 4 of 5 from three, and blocked 4 shots to propel his team past Blue Ridge in a hard-fought contest. Calling this performance impressive would be an understatement. Mellouk was gracious enough to tell Prep Hoops his story which you will find below.

PH: What’s your story man?

AM: "I want to mention that I do this for my family. I do it for my mom that passed away when I was 6. I am a kid from The Netherlands that began playing basketball 4 years ago. I started off in a small town called Almere, and that is when Coach Dominique and Coach Jard noticed me and told me that I could achieve great things if I’d put my mind to it. They’ve helped me ever since by taking me under their wing and helping me a lot on and off the court. After that, I played for a club named Triple Threat under Coach Dominique and Coach Roberto. After losing in the national championship I moved to the USA to play at Fork Union Military Academy.

PH: What’s the most important thing you’ve learned from Coach Dominique and Coach Jard?

AM: "Coach Dominique and Jard both thought me that mental toughness and discipline are everything. They always held me accountable for my actions and made sure that I would learn from my mistakes.

PH: Which part of your game is weakest right now?

AM: "I would say my handles and my IQ because I started playing basketball late."

PH: What separates you from other 2021 prospects who are trying to get noticed in these tough times?

AM: "Mental toughness and my will to win. I take every game seriously. I’m also very coachable and always willing to learn to improve my craft."

PH: Why will you be better in college than in high school?

AM: "Because of my work ethic and dedication. I think I’ve come a long way considering this is still just my 4th or 5th year playing basketball. I can never stop working and getting better I just love the process so much."

PH: What schools are you involved with? And what do you look for in a school?

AM: "I currently hold an offer from Central Michigan, but ACC BIG10 and BIG12 are showing interest and are currently talking to me so I don’t know what will happen but I am really excited for the future. The most important thing for me is to be around coaches that are willing to get me better every day and be around teammates that thrive to become better every day. I also look for a family environment. I believe that is very important within a team."
