Continue ReadingThe CBG Fall Series was a terrific event that featured tons of talent from 18 teams, and saw over 100 college coaches of all levels tune in to the live stream. The event saw tons of talent from all over the state, and saw many standouts that we both knew about and some new ones as well.
We take a crack at making All Series Teams, and it was very tough with the amount of talent in the event. The criteria was that the player had to play in at least four games in the event, eliminating a few very good performances from guys who only played in one of the sessions.
Here’s a look at our choices for Third Team All CBG Fall Series, with 7 guys who deserve all the attention they’re getting now.
John St. Germain John St. Germain 6'2" | PG St. Anne's Belfield | 2023 State VA | 6’0” PG | CBG 434 2023
13.7 PPG, 3.8 APG, 4.3 RPG
St. Germain looks every bit like the best point guard int he 2023 class, and the Fall Series was his proving ground as he was matched up with a lot of talented guards and showed he can compete with the best of them. He’s a dual threat guard that can score it off the bounce from all three levels and he can make plays for others when he gets in the lane, and his change of pace and poise is well beyond his years. He’s a stat sheet stuffer that does a little bit of everything for his team, and as he grows into his body and gets a little more athletic he’ll see tons of college coaches come his way.
Chance Mallory | 5’1” PG | CBG 434 2024
9.8 PPG, 15 made 3’s in 6 games (Most in Series)
While he’s still on the small side, Mallory was a starter as an eighth grader last year and he showed at the Fall Series that despite his height it doesn’t matter as he can flat out play. He’s a sniper from deep who made more three-pointers than anyone in the event, and in the first session he had a 27 point outing against a very good CBG East team. He’s highly skilled, is very tough and competes and he won’t back down from anyone when he’s on the court.
Bobby Johnson Bobby Johnson 6'2" | SG Western Branch | 2021 State VA | 6’2” WG | Chesapeake Jaguars 2021
14.3 PPG, 6 RPG
Johnson is the glue guy for a very talented Jaguars team and one of the most productive glue guys around. The 6’2” guard is a high motor and athletic two way player who has a blue collar mentality and is a stat sheet stuffer that makes winning plays on both ends of the floor. He comes at you over and over again, he’s an excellent rebounder for his size and never seems to get tired or stop making the hustle plays to help his team win.
Curtis Blair III Curtis Blair III 6'6" | SF Steward School | 2023 State #211 Nation VA | 6’5” WF | VA Havoc/Rockett 2023
11 PPG, 3.2 RPG
While Blair’s numbers aren’t great, he did have a game where he started but came out early with a mind grain and played on multiple teams throughout the event, he was productive in multiple games and showed great improvement. One of the top 2023 prospects in the country, Blair has filled out nicely and transitioned to the wing seamlessly as he improved his ball handling ability and ability to create space and make tough shots at multiple levels. He’s set to have a breakout year at Steward and should continue to see his recruitment pick up moving forward.
Dana Woodley Dana Woodley 6'4" | SG John Marshall | 2021 State VA | 6’4” WG | CBG Blue Magic 2021
10.3 PPG
Woodley may not have put up the biggest numbers, but when Blue Magic was in tough games he brought it and showed that he should have division one schools recruiting him with his blend of size, athleticism and scoring ability. Woodley’s an elite athlete that can play above the rim on both ends and brings energy with his highlight reel plays, and he’s a guy who projects to be a big time 3 and d player moving forward. He scored in double figures in all of their big matchups, and there’s no way he doesn’t see more recruitment coming his way soon.
Jaden Daughtry Jaden Daughtry 6'6" | SF Benedictine College Prep | 2022 VA | 6’6” WF | CBG Wildcats 2022
13.3 PPG, 5.3 RPG
Daughtry looks like he’ll be a breakout guy at LC Bird this year, and with a Wildcats team that he was getting used to playing with he showed his high motor and budding skill set that makes him so productive. He’s a big, strong wing that’s a natural athlete and brings it on both ends of the floor, shooting passing lanes and rebounding the ball well on both ends. He can handle it in transition, he makes good reads and is unselfish when attacking the rim and as he continues to improve his perimeter shooting he’ll be very tough to guard moving forward.
Caleb Kenney Caleb Kenney 6'6" | PF Douglas Freeman | 2021 State VA | 6’6” WF | Team Assist Orange 2021
8.8 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 1.5 BPG (1st in Series)
Kenney was on a showcase team with Assist Orange so his numbers weren’t that high as they had different guys have big games, but he scored in double figures 4 of the 6 games and was one of the best two way guys on a showcase team where some wouldn’t even want to play defense. He’s one of the most versatile guys as he can play inside-out offensively, he can guard multiple positions defensively and his length and athleticism led to many highlight worthy plays. He received multiple offers through the event, including one from Holy Cross in the Patriot League where he committed a few weeks ago.
