The 2020-21 season will get underway later this month with actual competition kicking off on Dec. 1. Prep Hoops Wisconsin breaks down the race in Division 4 with our preseason top 10 teams…

1. Cuba City

2019-20 Record: 25-0 (14-0 SWAL)

Key Returners: [player_tooltip player_id="879979" first="Brayden" last="Dailey"] (23.2 ppg), [player_tooltip player_id="880021" first="Jack" last="Misky"] (14.4 ppg)
[caption id="attachment_1012661" align="alignright" width="300"] [player_tooltip player_id="879979" first="Brayden" last="Dailey"][/caption]
Notable Losses: [player_tooltip player_id="880998" first="Brady" last="Olson"] (16.9 ppg), [player_tooltip player_id="880979" first="Jackson" last="Noll"] (11.4 ppg)

Despite losing two starters and a pair of college prospects, this team could be just as good, potentially better than last season’s undefeated squad. [player_tooltip player_id="879979" first="Brayden" last="Dailey"], a UW-Green Bay signee, enters his senior season and he’ll have plenty of help. [player_tooltip player_id="880021" first="Jack" last="Misky"] is a do-it-all forward who can also score. Junior guard [player_tooltip player_id="1036800" first="Carter" last="Olson"] and sophomore wing Max Lucey are two talented prospects who were waiting in the wings and ready to be unleashed in 2020-21.

2. Darlington

2019-20 Record: 22-3 (12-3 SWAL)

Key Returners: [player_tooltip player_id="879994" first="Carter" last="Lancaster"] (20.7 ppg), Cayden Rankin (14.0 ppg), Curtis Stone (10.6 ppg), [player_tooltip player_id="1029761" first="Easton" last="Evenstad"] (7.5 ppg)

Notable Losses: N/A

The Redbirds return their top four scorers from a year ago, including senior wing [player_tooltip player_id="879994" first="Carter" last="Lancaster"], who’s established himself as a Division 2 prospect. A pair of juniors, Easton Evenstead and Hunter Hardyman, are coming off nice summers and should bolster a team that won 22 games and finished second in a very tough league.

3. The Prairie School

2019-20 Record: 15-10 (7-9 Metro Classic)

Key Returners: [player_tooltip player_id="879983" first="Antuan" last="Nesbitt"] (19.0 ppg), [player_tooltip player_id="981021" first="Ashe" last="Oglesby"] (10.9 ppg), [player_tooltip player_id="1041724" first="Asanjai" last="Hunter"] (10.4 ppg), [player_tooltip player_id="938202" first="Kody" last="Krekling"] (9.6 ppg), Jacob Fallico (9.4 ppg)

Notable Losses: N/A

Six of the top seven scorers are back this season for the Hawks. While they may take some lumps in the always-competitive Metro Classic Conference, The Prairie School will be as talented as any team in Division 4. Led by the versatile guard/wing [player_tooltip player_id="879983" first="Antuan" last="Nesbitt"], who is a triple-double threat, the Hawks surround their star with electric guard play, shooting, and size. The development of sophomore forward [player_tooltip player_id="981021" first="Ashe" last="Oglesby"] could be the x-factor for TPS this season. Coming off a standout freshman campaign, Oglesby is a top 10-12 prospect in the class of 2023.

4. Milwaukee Academy of Science

2019-20 Record: 20-3 (Independent)
[caption id="attachment_1041727" align="alignright" width="300"] [player_tooltip player_id="701998" first="Donald" last="McHenry"][/caption]
Key Returners: [player_tooltip player_id="701998" first="Donald" last="McHenry"] (21.1 ppg)

Notable Losses: [player_tooltip player_id="774468" first="Kaleim" last="Taylor"] (17.6 ppg), [player_tooltip player_id="694797" first="Darius" last="Hannah"] (17.6 ppg), [player_tooltip player_id="774480" first="Amani" last="Glosson"] (13.1 ppg)

This won’t be the same team without Hannah and Taylor, but MAS should field another competitive team capable of going deep into March. McHenry is coming off a big summer and will likely see his numbers explode as a senior. If high-upside junior Leon Zollicoffer-White can take some steps forward, the Novas might catch some people by surprise.

5. Cameron

2019-20 Record: 18-7 (13-3 Heart O’ North)

Key Returners: [player_tooltip player_id="994423" first="Austin" last="Weis"] (16.7 ppg), Ian Payne (13.0 ppg), Richie Murphy (12.7 ppg)

Notable Losses: Peyton Buzek (10.1 ppg)

After a slow start, Cameron really turned it on during the second half of the season. The Comets went on a nine-game winning streak that started on Jan. 25. Cameron finished the season by winning 12 of its last 15 games and now return three of their top four scorers. Loras College commit [player_tooltip player_id="994423" first="Austin" last="Weis"] will lead the way. A reigning first-team All-Conference pick, Weis is a marksman with excellent positional size (6-5).

6. New Glarus

2019-20 Record: 15-9 (9-1 Capitol South)

Key Returners: [player_tooltip player_id="804936" first="Mason" last="Martinson"] (15.5 ppg), Nathan Streiff (12.7 ppg)

Notable Losses: Connor Siegenthaler (10.0 ppg)

The reigning Capitol South champs get leading scorer [player_tooltip player_id="804936" first="Mason" last="Martinson"] back. A do-it-all wing/forward also led the team in rebounding and was second in assists. While New Glarus did manage to sweep Marshall in a pair of three-point victories, the Knights will be looking for more consistency in 2020-21 after dropping quite a few games against teams they were favored against.

7. Marshall

2019-20 Record: 16-8 (7-3 Capitol South)

Key Returners: [player_tooltip player_id="988972" first="Craig" last="Ward"] (17.2 ppg), Reid Truschinski (11.5 ppg), Cole Denniston (9.0 ppg)

Notable Losses: Tyler Chadwick (14.0 ppg)

You look at Marshall’s eight losses from last season, they were in just about every game, including some heartbreaker. This is a battle-tested group that went up against the likes of Lake Mills, Martin Luther, and Oregon last season. Leading scorer and senior guard [player_tooltip player_id="988972" first="Craig" last="Ward"] is one of the most talented players in all of Division 4.

8. Roncalli

2019-20 Record: 21-4 (12-2 Eastern Wisconsin Conference)

Key Returners: Luke Pautz (11.9 ppg)

Notable Losses: Austin Kratz (13.7 ppg), Bryce Pautz (12.9 ppg)

The Jets lose four starters, but they’ll continue to remain one of the top programs in Division 4 regardless. Roncalli has upperclassmen who have paid their dues, learned how to win, and are ready to enter the spotlight.

9. Durand

2019-20 Record: 18-6 (12-2 Dunn St. Croix)

Key Returners: Gunnar Hurlburt (14.2 ppg), Caden Berger (12.7 ppg), Simon Bauer (9.0 ppg), Joey Biesterveld (9.0 ppg)

Notable Losses: Luke Pelke (9.2 ppg)

A deep, experienced team with a balanced scoring attack, Durand features four players who earned All-Conference recognition last season.

10. Edgar

2019-20 Record: 18-6 (11-5 Marawood South)

Key Returners: Drew Guden (13.3 ppg), Kyle Brewster (12.5 ppg), Austin Dahlke (10.5 ppg)

Notable Losses: N/A

Don’t pay attention much to the conference record as the Marawood South was loaded last season with ranked senior-laden teams such as Auburndale and Stratford leading the charge. Edgar, who returns its top five scorers from 2019-20, including four seniors, now becomes the class of the confernece.

Honorable Mention: Fennimore, Mineral Point, Deerfield, Living Word Lutheran, Saint Mary’s Springs, Crivitz, Coleman, Iola-Scandinavia, Auburndale, River Ridge
