<p> One of the top five prospects in the Class of 2021 in the state of Missouri is headed to the Atlantic 10 Conference.</p>
<p> Vashon High standout guard Nick Kern gave a commitment to Virginia Commonwealth University on Monday afternoon. He made the announcement official on his Instagram account. He later signed his national letter of intent at his school.</p>
<p> A 6’6" wing player, Kern is currently the No. 4 player in the latest Prep Hoops Missouri Class of 2021 rankings. He selected VCU over Saint Louis U, TCU and DePaul.</p>
<p> A silky-smooth offensive player with three-level scoring ability, Kern averaged 12 points a game to help the Wolverines to a Final Four berth in the Class 4 state tournament as a junior. With the graduation of Division I players Cameron Fletcher, [player_tooltip player_id="822850" first="Phillip" last="Russell"] and [player_tooltip player_id="789823" first="Kobe" last="Clark"], Kern is expected to take an even bigger offensive role for the Wolverines this season.</p>
<p> Kern becomes the second player from Vashon who will be putting on a VCU uniform. Former Wolverine forward Levi Stockard will be playing for VCU this season after transferring from Kansas State, where he spent the first three seasons of his collegiate career.</p>
<p> During the summer grassroots season, Kern played with Brad Beal Elite.</p>
