Some recently committed players like Kobe Mitchell Kobe Mitchell 6'3" | PG Harrison Central | 2021 State OH and Cole McWhinnie Cole McWhinnie 6'1" | PG Toledo Christian | 2021 State OH made huge leaps in the rankings. While players like that are important to recognize, uncommitted seniors should be the focus after losing most of their most important summer of AAU to gain offers and interest. This article will focus on players ranked in the top 50 who improved their stock, a future article will spotlight some under the radar guys.
George Mangas George Mangas 6'4" | SF Lima Shawnee | 2021 State OH , 6’4 SF Lima Shawnee 2021: Mangas had a huge high school season, helping Shawnee go unbeaten before COVID cancelled the remainder of the playoffs. Mangas continued his tear of a run with a huge summer for NW Ohio at different events in Fort Wayne. Mangas biggest games came against Indy Heat, a squad loaded with high major prospects including Meechie Johnson Meechie Johnson 6'2" | PG Garfield Heights | 2020 OH and Kalen Etzler Kalen Etzler 6'8" | PF Convoy Crestview | 2021 State #208 Nation OH . Despite this talent, Mangas was scoring 20+ points on high efficiency in multiple games Vs Indy Heat. Mangas proved he can score the ball against top competition and I believe he is vastly under-recruited at the moment.
Corey Tripp Corey Tripp 6'3" | PG Medina | 2021 State OH , 6’3 PG Medina 2021: Tripp shined for All-Ohio Red in the few AAU tournaments that he was able to play in this summer. Tripp looked more explosive athletically and is shooting the ball with more confidence. He has a college-ready frame and has always been able to zip the ball across the court with his passing vision. Tripp also stood out at events hosted by 270 Hoops and NEO Spotlight, adding to his impressive summer.
Maceo Williams Maceo Williams 6'6" | C Gahanna | 2021 State OH , 6’6 C Gahanna 2021: Williams has always been a player I’ve been a fan of, but his performances against teams like C2K convinced me even more of his college potential. Williams is an incredibly high IQ big guy, with great touch and footwork around the basket. Williams is vertically limited, standing at 6’6 with low explosiveness, but with his strength I rarely found his lack of height to prevent him from defending the post or rebounding the basketball. Gahanna should be one of the best teams in the state this year so college coaches will have plenty more opportunities to see Williams play high level competition. Walsh and Ashland are a few of the programs that have offered Williams in the past couple months.
Keyshawn Hall Keyshawn Hall 6'6" | PF Cleveland Heights | 2021 State OH , 6’6 PF Cleveland Heights 2021: Hall proved himself to be a mismatch nightmare for opponents this summer, whether that was playing for Team Cleveland or at showcase events. Hall has a unique ability to change speeds at his size which makes him tough to handle on the perimeter. One of three marquee Senate league transfers to Cleveland Heights, as the Tigers will be one of the top teams in Ohio next season with the new additions.
Jared Lary Jared Lary 6'5" | SF Lutheran East | 2021 State OH , 6’5 SF Lutheran East 2021: Lary technically isn’t a ’stock riser’ because he’s completely new to the rankings as a whole. Lary joined Lutheran East for his senior season after moving from Michigan. Lary is a sweet shooting wing who showed defensive upside at the NEO Top 20 combine. Expect him to become a household name playing for a Lutheran East team filled with senior talent. Cleveland State was clearly impressed with what Lary did at the NEO Top 20 combine, offering him shortly after the event.
Jarius Jones Jarius Jones 6'5" | SF Gahanna | 2021 State OH , 6’5 SF Gahanna 2021: Jones was another member of the NOVA (Alleyne) squad that really impressed this summer. Jones ability to defend wings on-ball was really spotlighted in match-ups with high level wing creators. I also thought Jones was showing improved self-creation on offense, looking more capable of attacking the basket in a more open offensive system relative to the mostly slow paced Gahanna offense that’s centered around half-court execution. Jackson State, Walsh and Concord have all given offers to Jones since this summer began.
Tasos Cook Tasos Cook 6'2" | SG Westerville Central | 2021 State OH , 6’2 SG Westerville Central 2021: Cook shined for NOVA (Lemon) this summer, using his impressive athleticism to get to the rim at will. Colleges started to notice his improved play as Cook has received two offers since October, from Walsh and Notre Dame (OH). With Quincy Clark Quincy Clark 6'3" | PG Westerville Central | 2021 State OH leaving for Elevation Prep (IN), Cook will have a larger creation responsibility for the Warhawks after they were poised for a huge season after a district title in 2020.
