2023 Rankings Update: The Top 10

2023 Rankings Update: The Top 10

I’ve been high on the class of 2023 since they stepped into the gym as high schoolers. I always felt like there were some young men that were really undervalued for what they brought to the table. For many of them, their true talent is really starting to show. The top 10 in the newly updated recruiting class is full of talented players with D1 skills.

# 1

[player_tooltip player_id="985659" first="Malik" last="Olafioye"] (PG, Ecorse)

The top 3, in my opinion, are so close. But I gave the edge to Olafioye. He was just too good and too impressive this summer. The talented scoring lead guard was electric with the ball in his hands. Quite frankly, Olafioye deserves to have his choice of schools across the country, and basically already does.

#2

[player_tooltip player_id="985661" first="Curtis" last="Williams"] (SF, Brother Rice)

Ranking Williams number 2 is in no way saying that he doesn’t deserve to be ranked as high as some other publications have him. Because he in fact does deserve it. He’s an elite wing on a national level. Williams physical skills and basketball talents scream high major.

#3

[player_tooltip player_id="985657" first="Sonny" last="Wilson"] (PG, UD Jesuit)

Wilson drops from number 1 to number 3, but again, it’s not because he doesn’t deserve a top ranking. In my opinion, he’s a dominating floor general with high major skills. Wilson is excellent initiating the offense with a downcourt feed.

#4

[player_tooltip player_id="985658" first="RJ" last="Taylor"] (PG, Grand Blanc)

Throughout the summer, we saw Taylor doubters become Taylor believers. He’s just to good and too efficient when manning the point. The young man just understands the position and how to play it the right way. Taylor walked into high school with a mature game.

#5

[player_tooltip player_id="985660" first="Braelon" last="Green"] (SG, Ypsilanti)

Before an injury, Green was having one of the most impressive summers of any Michigan player. He was absolutely relentless and fearless attacking the rim off the dribble. His development says "move him up", there’s just nobody ahead that we can move down.

#6

[player_tooltip player_id="1076533" first="Marlon" last="Barnes Jr."] (SG, Ypsi Prep)

Barnes Jr. may deserve to be higher on this list, but being new to Michigan, we don’t have a ton of experience with him. He appears to be freakish athletically, giving him the ability to run the floor and play above the rim. Barnes Jr. could absolutely blow up for Ypsi Prep.

#7

[player_tooltip player_id="985662" first="Tim" last="Jordan"] (PF, Saginaw Arthur Hill)

Jordan isn’t done any justice with a number 7 ranking, which is part of the reason why I like this class so much. He’s a bouncy 4 that can score in a variety of ways. He rebounds the ball high and has strong hands when pulling it down. We could very well be watching Jordan manning the paint on TV in a few years.

#8

[player_tooltip player_id="1076022" first="Raymond" last="Adams"] (PF, Ypsi Prep)

I can’t wait to see more of Adams’ games. He looks like he has potential coming out of his ears. I’m guessing that he’ll add weight and mass this year and that could help send him to the next level. He’s a natural athlete with a good feel for the game.

#9

[player_tooltip player_id="985663" first="Prince" last="Jackson"] (PG, Farmington)

I’ve been very high on [player_tooltip player_id="985663" first="Prince" last="Jackson"]’s game since the fall before his freshman season. He was a terrific and selfless passer. Jackson had the ability to hit his man in stride, and often times freed a teammate DUE TO HIS PASS.

#10

[player_tooltip player_id="985664" first="Anthony" last="Benard"] (CG, Grosse Pointe South)

Benard will be fun to watch over the next 3 years. He’s an underrated athlete that can finish well above the rim. He glides down the court in transition, using big strides to beat his defender down the floor. Benard is a true 3 level scorer.
