The Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo hit Sioux Falls Sunday, as high school players from North and South Dakota (plus Iowa and Minnesota) braved the snow in an effort to get into the gym and compete.
With top-notch players from all over taking part, there was no shortage of competitive basketball and standout performers.
Here were some of the top shooters from the event
Malek Wieker Malek Wieker 6'0" | CG Aberdeen Christian | 2023 State SDWieker did a great job consistently knocking down triples on Sunday, showcasing an effortless jumper that he could utilize in catch-and-shoot situations or off the dribble. The Aberdeen lefty combo guard was a threat from well beyond the 3-point line and after knocking down several, even his gravity to draw defenders opened the floor up for his teammates.
Alex Dvorak Alex Dvorak 6'1" | PG Dickinson | 2023 State NDDvorak is a solid all-around player and his ability to get to the paint and make plays is probably what gets him noticed, but his ability to make defenders pay for sagging too much on the perimeter was put to use on numerous occasion, and his ability to create separation off the bounce came through with a number of impressive pull up mid-range jumpers.
Caleb Hollenbeck Caleb Hollenbeck 6'3" | PG St. Thomas More | 2023 State SDHollenbeck did a great job spacing the floor Sunday, consistently running lanes in transition and staying wide in the halfcourt. His ability to cut to open areas or drift to corners on drives made him an easy outlet for teammates slashing to the paint and his ability to consistently knock down jumpers from distance put opposing defenders in a bind.
Gavin Muirhead
Muirhead has a pretty, smooth perimeter jumper and the length to get it off against just about any defender. He plays with a sound understanding of spacing and his mobility and effort to get to spots on the floor where he can get free for looks made him a hard guy to defend even when opposing defenders consciously made an effort to take him away.
Harrison Reede Harrison Reede 5'10" | PG Aberdeen Central | 2022 SDReede was one of the most impressive players on the floor Sunday and he showed a strong shooting ability from beyond the 3-point line. He’s got the quickness and a quick enough release to create his own long-range shots off the dribble, but he’s also more than competent as a cutter and spot-up guy.
